There are too many things to cause this. I recommend getting a heat pump service man to find problem.

SOURCE: non-working outside unit

If your unit is blowing heat inside and it's not a heat pump. It will be most likely electric heat in your case.
Sounds like you have a split unit meaning the condenser is outside and the cooling and the heat features are inside or under your home.If your Rudd is a heat-pump the outside unit will cycle/blow cold air outside in winter and hot air will cycle/blow outside during the summer season. Now, if for some reason the heat  is not coming on inside the house, would be the only reason that you would need to be concerned. Being a heat relay or breaker of could cause that problem. Hope this helps you, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: intertherm heat pump

FIRST YOUR OUTSIDE UNIT PROVIDES HEAT BY USING A REVERSING VALVE TO CHANGE THE REFRIGERANT FLOW.THERE IS NO HEAT STRIPS OUTSIDE SECOND YOUR EMERGENCY HEAT TURNS ON ELECTRIC ELEMENTS INSIDE YOUR AIRHANDLER UNIT.IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMEONE HAS WIRED YOUR UNIT WRONG OR HAS THE THERMOSTAT SET IMPROPERLY.WHEN THE HEAT PUMP CANNOT SATTISFY THE SETPOINT THE THERMOSTAT IS SUPPOSED TO TURN ON YOUR ELEC. HEAT UNTILL THE LOAD HAS BEEN REACHED AND THE HEAT PUMP CAN CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN IT.

SOURCE: Rheem heat pump, have to keep pushing red reset button for fan

Either the fan motor is going out OR the compressor may need a boost of power from a quick start.

When the compressor gets old, sometimes it requires a little extra power to get it going.

Your unit should be under work warranty if they installed it.

If the outdoor temps are cooler than inside, AC's are not made for this and will not work well if that is the situation, it floods liquid to the compressor which will overload. will it reset within 20 mins of going off? if so the board/stat are suspect, if not the compressors the villain and its tired and cant handle the other than design condition of 95 F outdoor/80F indoor.

I JUST BOUGHT THIS UNIT IT HAS THE OUTSIDE UNIT AND THE INSIDE UNIT AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAT PACKS IN THE INSIDE HANDLER IS FOR EMERGENCY HEAT ONLY...IS THIS TRUE?

Yes, if you are talking about a heat pump. It you have an electric furnace inside, the electric elements are for emergency heat. Otherwise, unless you switch it manually at the thermostat, the heatpump (outdoor unit) will run all year around. If you want to use your inside heater (electric heater) just switch your thermostat to "emergency heat" and it will turn on the electrical elements instead of the outdoor unit. This way will make your elec. bill higher tho. The heat pump is much more efficient. Hope this helps you , have good day

Hi; I hope You called a company that will honor any warranty on the heatpump. Sounds to Me like I would contact the original installer for more help or free replacement. Also at 55 or 75 degrees outside The heatpump should be providing toasty air. Only at close to freezing temps will You get a reduction in warm air and then the heat strips will help out then also check to see if the unit has outside air dampers and make sure they are closed..alpharome416

No heat at night

You have a poor low voltage connection from the thermostat or a bad contactor. The contactor is the main relay control inside the condensing unit. The incoming voltage wires connect to it.
Contactors are inexpensive. I would change that first.
Check all your low voltage wires in the condensing unit for loose connections.

Heat pump not running

check your house circuit breakers first that should be labeled heatpump or outdoor unit
make sure it is on and or not tripped
then if you have a box outside near the outdoor unit open it up and see if there is a breaker or maybe fuses that could be blown

Goodman PHJK048 Heat Pump Package

ok...where to start.lol ....the thermostat is just a switch. It will tell the unit to run or not run.if you measure the temp with the heatpump running, the air is warmer than 68 but it feels cool to you because your body is 98.6.The unit will run more often and for longer periods when the temperature drops outside for a few reasons.First, your house has more of a load to heat, meaning you have more heat loss because of the difference in temperatures outside and inside.Second, your heat pump pulls heat from the outside air.The colder the air outside, the less btu's for it to pull.If you have anymore questions hillbuck29@aol.com Hope this helps,Dave
