Need to remove top of scanner microtek scan wizard 5 to clean underside of glass

Follow these steps to clean the scanner :

Open up your scanner's lid. It does not matter if the scanner is on or off for this basic, regular cleaning.

Wipe down the glass surface with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth. This will remove any dust or other fine particles that have accumulated on the scanner. You should remove excess dust every day or two.

Scan a blank sheet of white paper into your computer and look for visible discoloration. A white sheet will provide a clean, blank slate to view the scanner's overall quality. If you notice any irregularities on the white sheet, you need to do more thorough, semi-regular cleaning.

Semi-Regular Cleaning

Turn off the scanner and open up the lid.

Spray a small amount of "mild glass cleaner" on a soft, clean cloth as recommended by

Wipe the scanner's glass to thoroughly clean the area. You should perform this semi-regular cleaning at least every two weeks or sooner if a white sheet of paper indicates discoloration.

Keep the scanner's lid open for a few minutes until all excess glass cleaner has dried.

The printer is showing error 51 and not printing

Control Panel message

Beam error
Laser scanner cable connectors are faulty or laser scanner assembly is defective Most likly it is the laser/scanner assembly. The motor is probably not spinning at the right speed. You would need to find an old hp 4 no longer working and switch the laser/scanner. It is the "black box" located under the top cover. You would need to remove the right side cover, the top cover, the left side cover and the output assembly. Remove all the cables from the scanner retaining clips. Remove the three cables plugged into the scanner and remove the four screws attaching the scanner to the frame. When replacing the scanner make sure the shutter control arm on the left front side of the scanner is attached correctly so that the shutter closes when the toner cartiridge is removed. You could first try to remove the 3 connnectors and reset them.

How Do Stop Scanner Bulb From Warming Up?

There are 3 possible causes to this problem.

First dirty scanner optics this causes scanner to unable to get to the home position. This step should be done first. You will need to remove the ADF assy, left, right covers, remove control panel, remove control panel base cover, remove 8 screws 4 on top and 4 under scanner assy ( One screw on each side of scannerie front, left, right, back) Then carefully remove the glass. You should now be able to see the scanner assy, you will need a small flat screwdriver to disengage the tabs holding the scanner cover in place. Clean all mirrors with DRY q-tip. Reassemble and test.

2nd After cleaning scanner optics still doesn't resolve problem next step is to replace scanner formatter. You will need to open left cover, and remove the 2 screws and remove the smaller left cover. The scanner formatter can now be seen.

If above steps do not resolve problem, replace the scanner assy.

Scanner replacement

I don't know how far you want to strip this, but if you're getting a scanner failure error, clean the underside of the scanner glass and the scanner mirrors then check all the connections (i've found this can cure the fault).

(1) Remove the ADF Rear Cover
(2) Remove 1 Screw from ADF cover
(3) Disconnect the Harness on the ADF PC Board
(4) Open the ADF.
(5) Release the Latch of the Left Hinge with a small
Straight Edge Screwdriver and remove the ADF.
(6) Remove the Control Panel Unit.
(7) Remove 8 Screws from scanner base
(8) Remove the Wire Clamp
(9) Remove the Scanner Cover Assembly
(10) Disconnect the Harness
(11) Remove 2 Screws
(12) Remove the Scanning Lamp
13) Slide the CCD Unit.
(14) Remove the CCD Harness Seal
(15) Remove 2 Screws
(16) Remove the Seal Plate
(17) Disconnect the Flat Harness
There is no need to disconnect the front FG
Harness that is attached to the CCD Unit.
(18) Remove 3 Screws and 2 Screws
(19) Remove the Main Board Cover
(20) Disconnect all the Harnesses.
(21) Remove 4 Screws

Did not stat printer and scanner

Remove the back cover. And looking from the back, remove the right side cover. There is a white ribbon cable and one connector with mostly red wires, remove and reseat those. Return power to the machine and see if it comes on.
If not, then remove the right side cover, the 2 screws that fasten the scanner to the frame, remove the scanner and then the controle consol, ( display.) then unplug all the connectors on the display and reconnect them.
It the display still does not work after reseating all the connectors, the scanner assembly is defective.
