Question about Nikon Cameras
Is it possible to add custom text on photos taken, instead of just a date?
In the more complex Nikon camera's you can add lots of text in the meta data. But I can't think of one Nikon camera that also can print text, that is in the metadata. So even not knowing what model you have, I almost certain can say, there is not such a thing on your camera.
Perhaps you have an exotic model, so if you tell me what type you own, I try to find out what you can print with it.
Most digital cameras can print direct to a pictbridge printer.

SnapTouch allows to add any comment into the file of the photo (it is located in EXIF) and then it can be applied to the shot. It can be done with photos created by any cam, not just by Nikon.

Yes and no... When printing the photos yourself, you can add the date via software. You can also download software that will allow you to add the date (and save it) before printing your images (http://www.avpsoft.com/products/timetophoto/).
As far as commercial printing kiosks (Walgreens, Walmart ect.) you have already found out that it isn't possible; however, I have found a local Camera Retailer (Mom and Pop shop) with some high end kiosks that read the stored date and ask if you want it included with the picture. The only thing is that it puts the date on the back of the photo, my wife would prefer it on the front.

SOURCE: Remove Date Stamp
You can easily remove it with photo editing software such as Photoshop Elements. If the date is in a corner, you can also crop the picture so the date is left out.

Testimonial: "Thank you for responding to my predicament with the date stamp. It's been a valuable lesson learned to leave the date stamp turned off. BTB"
When you download the pics to your computer and view them, is the date and time on the pics then? If not, then your camera is not including the info on the pic itself.
