Hi,
To my knowledge you cannot change back to XP from a Vista installation. You will need an original XP CD and do the installation from scratch.
Don't hesitate to ask me further questions regarding this.
Best wishes,

Transfer all files from my old desktop to new laptop

you can do that by following the steps below;
Instructions
  1. Step 1 Connect your laptop to your desktop through a home network connection. If you have a home network, you can hook up your laptop to it via an Ethernet cable or a wireless network card. Then, you can set a folder on your desktop computer to be shared across the network. To set a folder as shared in Windows, simply right click on it, select "Sharing and security," select the "Share" tab and check the box labeled "Share this folder on the network." You will then be able to access this folder from your laptop and transfer files to your.hard drive.
  2. Step 2 Purchase a USB jump drive. These handy devices are the size of a key but can store five gigabytes of files or even more, depending on the type of USB jump drive you buy. Insert the USB jump drive into your USB port and your operating system should find it as new hardware. If a window doesn't automatically come up, you can find in your drives under "My Computer." Then, you can click and drag files into it, remove the drive and take it to your desktop computer and access the files there.
  3. Step 3 Put your files onto another external storage device, such a CD, floppy disk or external hard drive. Files are transferable between any computers as long as you can store them on something external, then use that external device to move them to the other computer.
  4. Step 4 Email files to yourself. If you only have a few files that you would like to transfer and don't have any of the equipment used in Steps 1 through 3, send yourself an email with the files attached, access your email from the other computer and download the files to your hard drive.

Are XP to VISTA transfers doable w/ V 6.2.10.14?

It is not advisable.
Relocator is not 100% guaranteed to even work xp to xp

You are better to use the Vista Easy Transfer utility which operates similar to the XP File and Settings Transfer wizard. That should get your documents email etc.

I have only ever used it a couple of times and was not impressed.
I have also seen quite a few reports of other users having problems too.

That said people do use it and it can work.

I have used the vista transfer tool and been quite impressed even though it can be a little slow on occasion.

Vista machine doesn't recognize drivers so can't transfer files from old PC to new one (with Vista). Any updates?

what do use to transfer? usb stick or network connection?or cd/dvd-r?
what os does your old machine have?

if both machines have valid and functioning OS(winxx) and both have usb 2.0 port,
and you are transferring just back-up of personal data (doc's, mp3's, save-games etc., use) that amount up to less than 1 GB, try using usb-stick or empty mp3-player for file swapping.

else burn the files from old machine using the hopefully available cd/dvd-burner in it and transfer to newer.

for easily transferring the whole content of old harddisk unaltered,
set up asmall win-home-network using dsl/lan-cable plus crossover adaptor
(wire up both machines to one-another) and stream old harddisk content to new machine

is it laptop to laptop-transfer and you are somewhat familiar with hardware?

remove harddisk from older and put into new one!

by the way: if you can have win xp pro installed on newer machine for same or less price of win vista, try to get it(you do need a bit computer expertise - but we all like learning -don't we?

good luck, if not satisfied or too much options for one time, just comeback to me!

sincerely yours

I need to transfer my settings and programs from my old laptop (using XP) to my new laptop which is using vista.

try start>all programs>accessories>system tools>file and settings transfer wizard... I'm sure it will work across xp and vista. (with settings in particular as files should probably be ok). but that's where I would start.

use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard instead of the Belkin software. It's pretty straight forward in the steps for moving files to "new" computer.
