Well, sometimes this happens (even it happened to me) you think you did it but you actually didn't but you could try to ask Google to see if you get your lost data back (unless its flappy bird because you can't re download it) I hope I helped you :D

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Sorry to tell you this, but since you didn't back them up before you did it, the only way you can get back your contacts is by manually re-entering them into your phone. As for the messages, you can't get those back.

you may be able to mount the phone to your computer as a disk drive and run a free program called power data recovery to retrieve your lost contacts. i have used it on everything from the intended hard drives to USB flash drives successfully.

For Samsung Android phone contacts recovery, there is two ways to achieve it.
One is sync from Google account, if you have a Google account, you may have sync your contacts to the server. So you can sycn it back from it. And other backup apps for contacts can help you.
The other one is for no backup, if you don't have any backup, you had better recover contacts from Samsung Galaxy by Android data recovery. I have lost my contacts in my Samsung Galaxy S because system update, no backup ! Finally, I got back all the contacts by a recovery tool named Tenorshare Android Data Recovery. You can have a try, get more info here:Samsung phone contacts recovery.

To restore your iPhone back to factory settings complete the following steps:

2) Tap the "General" tab, and tap the "Reset" tab.
3) Tap "Reset All Settings" to restore the iPhone to its default settings. Tap "Erase All Content and Settings" to restore the iPhone to its original factory settings, which erases all of your information including bookmarks, SMS messages, contacts and music.
