I repair, or at least, try to repair ink jet printers. The problem of why many inkjet printers have a short life, is that they do get gummed up with ink goo. There is a home position where a large sponge soaks up ink from the print head as a way to purge the ports. Over time (like a year or two), this sponge and the surrounding carriage assembly, gets covered in half-dried up ink. The print head passes over this area and inevitably gets gooed up. Instead of trying to replace a spring. May as well replace the printer.

SOURCE: ink cartridge leaked inside of

It is very unlikely that the cartrdige actaully leaked*, more likely what you see is the service station area on the right side of most HP inkjet printers. It is normal for ink to be spit into this area to keep the nozzles healthy. If this is the case it is best to just leave it alone, the service station was designed to collect the ink. If there is a ***** of ink high enough that the top is scraped flat by the service station you could remove it carefully with a plastic spoon. To minimize ink in the service station follow a few guidelines: 1. Do not use an external power strip to turn off the power to teh printer. The printer should always be plugged into a live outlet. Using an external switch will result in the pritner losing track of the time since the last print job, with the result it will use more ink in servicing. 2. Do not run unnecessary cleaning cycles from the maintenance panel. A typical cartrdige would need one or less user initiated cleaning cycles during its life. Users that do a cleaning every day or even once a week expend ink unnecessarily in the service area.

If you have an older Deskjet 800 or 1000 series printer the following may apply.

For more details applicable to your situation please indicate which printer model you have, whether your cartridges are original or refill/reman and also wa tte nature of the leak is.

* If you are using OEM cartrdiges. If you are refilling it is possible to overfill or otherwise cause the cartrdiges to leak.

How do I fix Leaking Ink

Your ink leak does not seem too serious, and from the look of the photo it is more likely just to be back spray from the cleaning mechanism. If ink is actually pooling in the cleaning station or flooding the printer, you may have a loose or damaged ink line. Of more interest is the error code, for that have a look at the link.

Lots of Q-tips! I'd also use some small pieces of cotton cloth--be careful it doesn't leave strands of cloth in the bottom of the printer. I've had this happen and I just stuck with it until it got reasonably clean.
Oh--and warm water will work just fine. Most of the ink is water-soluble

I had the blue ink leak inside my C6180 printer and now it won't print in blue. How do I fix this? Thanks

What you really saw was a really light blue or "cyan" color. Right?

Replace the Cyan Ink cartridge.

Your Cyan ink cartridge leaked it's ink out, and now it is dead.... Bad cartridge, if it was "brand new" (or nearly brand new), ***** to the retailer that sold it to you, they should replace it for free. Have invoice handy, ask to speak to the "manager" or "boss" (a "supervisor" is still a "peon", and can't make decisions like that).

If they give you the run-around, ask to talk to the OWNER! If they shut u down (and/or **** u off), and the store is local (within driving range) bring the printer into the store (dripping ink and all) and raise holy hell. You'll be surprised how fast they "throw" ink cartridges (even new printers) at you to get rid of you 8^). Nothing smells of death more, to a sales person or manager, than an irate customer on the sales floor!

BTW, You'll want to clean up any excess "blue"/cyan ink that was leaked inside your printer, or you'll get ink blotches on you printouts.

Let me know if this help ya! Cheers...

HP DeskJet 930c is leaking black ink

The printer primes and cleans the cartridges when the cartridges go to the right side of carriage. Sounds like a cartridge has either leaked or you have used it enough the the ink pool is full, or you have layed the printer on its side or back. From experence, if ink is leaking out of the printer, your probley better off getting anithe printer. I have tried to take the covers off and clean inside print, and it is a messy job.

C3150 print cartridge

  • Remove the cartridges.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • If the cartridges are leaking, put the print head on some tissue, so it can extract the excess ink. With a dry cloth, clean your scanner. Look inside the printer. If there is ink in there too, clean it. Use a lot of tissue or toilet paper. Might put some gloves on too.
  • When you make sure that the cartridges are not leaking anymore, gently wipe the electric contacts on them, and clean the ones on the cartridge carrier.
  • Turn the printer on.
  • Try printing.
  • If the cartridge light keeps flashing:
  1. If a computer message indicates a specific cartridge, that is the problem cartridge.
  2. If there is no computer message, look at the Start Copy lights - if the Black Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the right is the problem cartridge.
  3. If the Color Start Copy light is blinking, the cartridge on the left is the problem cartridge.
If you find out which cartridge is the problem, you will need to replace it.
Unfortunately, the ink that has leaked inside, might have damaged your printer.

Leaking Black Colour

REPLACE THE PRINTER AND SAVE YOURSELF A HUGE MESS

Understand when I suggest replacing the printer, it isn't that you can't fix it or that I'm not answering your question. But to do so will require cleaning every inch of the internal components. The ink will stain everything it touches and you'll need a smock, a work area, and probably gloves.

See what happens is that where the print head parks there is an ink absorber and below it is an ink well. The ink absorber is a sponge like arm that cleans off the cartridge and the well catches the loose ink. Inkjet printers are for the most part not designed to last past a few years, so few printers have a method for emptying these. When they become full the printer will start leaking ink in torrents but will continue to function normally for quite a while until it fills every nook and cranny of the printer. While all you notice is a sightly higher consumption of ink.

By the time you start visibly seeing the ink come out of the printer, the inside is a huge mess, and when I say huge I mean without cursing, words just can't express how nasty and ink smeared it is.

I have a jammed cartridge, what can I do

The last two MFP printers brought into my shop had problems from their original setup and opening. Check the inside, anywhere that the paper path or cartridge line touches, make sure there are no small shards of plastic or remaining packing materials like tape or cardboard flakes deep in the printer. There are also small jam sensors that protrude very little from the paper path that if knocked over a little bit can become loose and ironically cause jams.
