Now, a dirty little secret.
The first 2 number are the year code.
For newer Marlins (as yours is, because of how many digits are in the serial number), the way it works is subtract the first 2 numbers (23, in your case) from 100 for the last 2 digits of the year of manufacturer.
100-23=77 i.e. 1977
