Side view mirrors move in and out on its own

We have a 2004 BMW X5 (new to us) that the drivers side view mirror folds in and out on its own -- IE: closing the door, driving over a bump, wind, turning, etc. We can manually push it out but it moves in or out at the next bump or wind. The auto folding thing doesn't work which is ok with us as we just want it to stay in one place. Is there an inexpensive fix? Thanks

SOURCE: Hummer H2 Power folding mirror won't fold

The power folding function of your exterior mirrors on your '04 H2 depends on a plastic gear to collapse those mirrors at the touch of a button. That plastic gear strips very easily. The service adviser at our Hummer dealership said that problem was rectified in later model years with a redesign of of the collapsing mechanism of those mirrors.

I don't mind manually folding our mirrors, and I was afraid to ask about the cost of the parts required to solve the issue. The service guy didn't volunteer the cost of the fix. Not typically covered by aftermarket extended service/warranty plans.

SOURCE: electric folding door mirror not working

Try helping the mirror move by hand. The pivot rusts from not being used. Gently work it around.

SOURCE: Hello Our BMW X5 has folding mirrors but they

chances are you need to repl one or both mirrors, they are very expensive so if you can live with it you should, otherwise buy two from a dealer and remove both front window switches, plug 1 in at a time and see if only 1 will solve this if not try both, typically both are replaced

How to replace glass in Driver side rear view mirror?

Not sure of the X5 but on the M3 the mirrored glass portion of the driver side view mirror just "popped" onto the motor carrier in the housing. It was a little nerve racking removing and replacing the glass (my motor had died) but with care its possible. Suggest going to RealOEM.com site and enter vehicle vin information then go to vehicle trim and then outside mirror for details of assembly

2003 BMW x5 rear view mirror fell off how to get it back on?

if the mirror clips/slides onto a small bracket that is incorporated into the windshield then it is a case of sliding it back on , check that the ridge either side of the mirror bracket are'nt cracked or chipped as then the mirror wont stay in place ,on some models the mirror base sticks directly to the windshield so will need to go to a repair shop to get the appropriate glue , hope that makes sense

Passenger mirror not folding in

Grab the passenger mirror with both hands. Fold the mirror all the way forward, all the way back and then back to the home position. Sometimes the mirror will get off track if it has been bumped or moved out of place manually.

When I close the mirrors they immediatly open again

There are micro switches located in the mirrors. A metal tab is broken on one of the mirrors micro switches. Take off the painted cover to your side mirrors and remove a black plastic cover that has wires coming out. The switch will come out with the cover. Inspect for damage. If the metal tab is broken off then a new side mirror will need to be purchased. Could be the drivers side or the passengers side, caution when removing the painted covers, the tabs break if your not careful with them.

Mirrors will not fold in.

It is a stuck motor. Water gives rust inside housing. Remove mirror and clean motor and components. This is a well known error for H2 mirrors.
