Question about Jl Audio 300/4 Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

Does does the JL 300/4v2 have fuses?

I was in an rear end auto accident at which point my JL 300/4v2 amplifier quit working. I've checked all the power connections, and the remote lead and all are proper. Yet the amp does not power up. Could there be fuses internal to the amp that go jarred loose or blown?

SOURCE: bad amplifier need help!!!!

I had the same amp! It is the JL 300/4 and one of the chanels came in really fuzzy. It sounded as if the the wires were touching during my installation. I called JL and a JL authorized dealer it would have costed me 190 dollars total to get the amp fixed. Instead I opened up the amp to see if anything looked out of the ordinary. When you open the amp, see if the green fuse looking things are aligned. If they are not aligned then straighten them out. I think they had gotten out of place from being dropped becaue I baught my amp used. My amp works perfectly now!

Amp quit producing output, power indicator is on

it can't be a fuse cause if it was then there would be no power you might have blown the speaker terminals. did you check to see if the sub was blown.

Jl amp

If the battery is at or above 12v and the voltage at the amp (measured directly across the terminals of the amp) is 5v, that would require hundreds of amps of current which should easily blow the 80 amp fuse. If the fuse is defective, is would account for the voltage drop without excessive current draw.

Have you checked the ground connection between the amp and the vehicle's chassis ground point?

There are no fuses inside the amp.

Are any of the lights lighting up on the amp?

If so, which ones?

JL amps are somewhat sensitive to low voltage. Everything has to be perfect in the power supply feeding the amp. I'll assume that you have large enough wire. Check the owner's manual on the JL site. They likely recommend 4g or larger. You need to measure the voltage across the B+ and ground terminals of the amp. If it's dropping below ~11v when you turn the volume up, you need to determine why. Make the same measurements at the battery terminals. If there is significantly less voltage drop there when the volume is increased, check all of the points in the circuit where there could be a bad connection. Look for corrosion, over-heated connection on fuses or at the battery and make sure the fuse is in good physical condition. Some types tend to overheat and melt. If everything looks OK, begin measuring the voltage at each point where there is any sort of connector. If for example, you get a significant difference in the voltage on each side of the fuse, the fuse, the holder or the connections to the holder may be defective.
