Can I boot my asus x201e from a usb

How can I setup my asus x201e notebook to boot from a usb drive.

I found an answer this. The bios did not show an option to boot from a usb device until there was actually a bootable usb device plugged in. Once I plugged in the usb drive the bios showed in the boot order list and I was able to make it the first boot device. On restart the notebook booted from the usb drive since it was now first in the boot order.

How to boot with usb flash drive. detailed please, I'm trying to many diff ways nothing working, bios is the only thing on comp.

It is possible to boot from a USB drive....but only if the USB drive has been formatted as bootable, in the same way that OS CDs and DVDs are bootable media. You have to have an operating system either on the hard drive or on the flash drive in order to boot the computer. The BIOS is simply a "Basic Input-Output System" that interfaces the computer hardware to the OS, whatever media it is on. That is why you have to select the boot device and the boot device priority in the BIOS during setup, so it can direct itself to the bootable OS. Once you have installed an OS, then all will work fine. Until then, you will continue to have issues. Normally, with Window-based systems (you don't say what OS you are trying to use), you would insert the bootable Windows setup disk in the CD/DVD drive, ensure the BIOS was set to boot to CD/DVD first, and start the computer. The windows setup file would load itself and start the OS install process. It may even be necessary to partition and format the hard drive during this evolution, but the setup program would lead you through that as well. I have seen Windows setup files loaded to USB sticks, but they require a special process to generate so the BIOS sees the USB as bootable.

I have exactly the same problem with my ASUS K55V. I am trying to boot Ubuntu 13.04 from USB but Windows 8 keeps appearing on my screen and I have the impression that with every further Windows boot I am closer to kick this annoying laptop out of the window.

Usb drive not working

I would say go into your Bios or System Setup and make sure your USB is enabled. If it is enabled, try a different USB Port. If it still does not work, I would try your USB Flash Drive or stick as you call it in another computer to make sure it's not defective.

You get into the Bios or System Setup watching your screen to see which key to press when you first turn the machine on to boot.

How can i reformat my asus eee pc1000h if it doesnt have a cd drive?

You can reformat your Asus eePC 100h notebook using an Ubuntu Live USB.Here is how to make one: 1. Download an Ubuntu ISO Disk image from www.ubuntu.com or a debian ISO image file from www.debian.com. 2. You can also use an existing Live CD to create an ISO Disk image with if you have a working PC around. Many free tools exist for creating disk images.I suggest Ashampoo Burning studio or CDBurnerXP.Search for them on google. 3.Get your hands on a working PC that has Windows XP/Vista/7 installed on it. 4. Download the UnetBootIn utility from http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-windows-latest.exe. 5.The procedure for creating the Disk Image is as follows: (a)Requirements: 1 GB or larger USB drive, formatted as FAT32(most USB drives come formatted as FAT32 by default, but if you need to format it, on Windows, go to My Computer->right click your USB drive->format.
On Windows XP, you must be logged on as an administrator; on Windows Vista and above, you will be prompted for permissions via UAC.
On Windows, the UnetBootIN software looks like this:

Follow the guided prompts on the software to make your Live USB drive, and be careful to select the corrrect linux distribution on the window.
When done, safely remove the flashdrive from the PC and plug it in your Asus eeePC 100h notebook.
Boot up your notebook and press the F2 Key as the system starts up and select the USB flash drive as the first boot device(You can also do the same from the BIOS setup).
When you boot up with the Ubuntu Live USB, select "Try Ubuntu without installing" option to run the Live OS on RAM.
When the system boots up completely, go to System>Administration>Gparted and the Gparted Disk utilitty will run.
From the Gparted menu, select the appropriate partition you want to format or modify.
You can read more on Gparted here.
When you are done partitioning and formating your HDD as you desire, you can also install Windows XP/Vista/7 from a FlashDrive by following the instructions below:

1.Get your hands on a working PC with Windows XP/Vista/7 installed.
2.Download the WinToFlash utility from http://wintoflash.com/download/en/
3.Install the application on the PC.
4.Once you are done, insert a Windows XP CD in the PC's optical disk drive and follow the installation instructions from WinToFlash.
By default, the installation path for Windows XP files on the drive is DRIVE LETTER:/Windows/system32.
See the screenshot below for more details:

You can use the created bootable USB to install Windows XP on your notebook.
For more on WinToFlash, see this link:http://komku.blogspot.com/2009/09/wintoflash-guide-install-windows-xp.html

Have a great time ahead.

You don't need to access bios to change boot drive just hit escape key a couple of times when you power on and it will give you options for which drive to boot from.
