Gas smell when shot the engine off.

V-6 94,000 miles well maintained When I shot the engine off in the garage I can smell raw gas. I replace both sensors in the manifolds about 20,000 ago.

Stop shooting engine and leaks will , decrease some. LOL !

2004 Toy Highlander.
what you replaces is of no bearing.
what counts is realty.
find the leak.
if it really is raw gas, do not drive car or garage it.
park it far from home and people. (curb it.)
gas fumes if not real raw fuel (liquid) can come from EVAP canister
hose fell off.
first look for injector leaks (outside body)
and fuel hose leaks, (look at these first as they are 10x more dangerous that others)

does the PCM scans show DTC errors?
scan it, what do you have.?

if there is raw fuel dripping from the exhaust manifold that means
the INJECTors are stuck on or leaking, this is one of the most dangerous conditions on all EFI cars.
they to look more carefully
or better get a ASE mechanic to check the car out.
be safe.

SOURCE: 1991 toyota 3L V6 Overfueling, raw fuel pouring out exhaust pipes

The valve cover gasket change is related only to the extent of needeing to remove something else . There is the fuel pressure regulator and the MAF SENSOR talks to the ECU telling the computer how much fuel is needed for proper mixture of thre air passing into the intake. It is the first sensor in the intake duct coming out of the sir filter. Make sure all the injectors are secure in wiring connection and look around for any other that had to be removed. All plugs mean it isn't just one injector. Unplug and replug the MAF. cHECK THE THROTTLE POSITIO SENSOT. iT RIGHT THERE where the fuel likage is attached.

SOURCE: I have a gas smell that seems to be coming from engine compartmen

Get it out of the garage! Go over the entire fuel line(s) looking for any wet spots. Key on, but engine not running. Look carefully at joints of hose to piping and all along any hoses. Replace any hose that is hard or has cracks. Inspect the injectors for any leaking. NO open flames!!

SOURCE: engine turns during starting but will not fire,

Ok..it sounds like you are getting good gas...but you have to check and see if you are getting spark...and compression...But check all your fuses first...and have someone crank it over with the Dist. Cap off, and make sure it's turning..dont stand to close while doing this..and if it is not turning...you probaly popped the timing belt....

SOURCE: poor gas mileage, 22 mpg. No error codes, runs

i checked the fuel econ. of new one and its 31 city. if you have no light on or codes then your fuel system is ok.tire pressure type make a difference.
but ive got to tell you every time i had a warranty complaint of poor fuel mileage i would go for a drive with owner at the wheel and it was there driving habits that caused it.sometimes it was they did not understand how those fuel econ. meters alot of cars come with work

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot. It has been the same driver. my wife, and location (in the mountains). We have changed the tires for more rugged type. Still, thanks."

2008 Chevy cobalt 2.2 l 133,324 miles. It just started to hesitate to start and smells like raw gas. What could it be?

Hi Jesse, IM AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

Jesse, if you are smelling "Raw Gas" then this is a sign of a gas leak or an injector stuck open flooding the system.
Start the engine and check for fuel leaking from the injectors sometimes and injector will leak externally. Also check for fuel leaks around the fuel line and fuel rail, also check under the vehicle, the fuel lie, tank, filler tube. The Internal Injector leak can only be checked after removal of the fuel rail (engine off). With the fuel rail in your hand have someone turn the key on (engine off) it should be a spray like pattern from each injector and no drips after the spray. NOTE: This should be checked only after there were no other issues found with the first issues I talked about. Hope this helps and please visit my auto-repair-website http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

1999 3000gt with DOHV 3l. Running fine then sounds like no oil in engine on startup. Also exhaust smells like raw gas

Raw gas smell may be the culprit of starting noise. Leaky injector(s) could be causing some fuel to enter chambers as you shut off engine, washing oil off cylinder walls and diluting oil. Check fuel pressure key on/engine off and test for gas in the oil.

1993 LS 400. Starting out the car just is slow. It's not the tranny. Tranny shifts perfect including reverse. I smell gas. Old lady drove car the whole time. 118,000 miles

IF WHAT YOU SMELL IS RAW GAS THAT IS AN URGENT PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NOT BE PASSED OVER. IF YOU SMELL A ROTTEN EGG SMELL THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM THAT GIVES POOR ACCELERATION. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS AND CHECK FOR ENGINE VACUUM AT IDLE. MUST BE AT LEAST 19 INCHES,. IF NOT, YOUR CONVERTER IS PLUGGED.

Have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville using too much gas

it sounds like a bad purge valve. if the diaphram in side it goes bad it will **** fuel into the intake through the vacume line attached to it, check it by removing the vacume line and look for signs of fuel. if its bad it can also fill you charcoal canister with raw fuel

don't know year make model but if you can smell gas and you see wetness underneath you should have it checked out. a small leak even though your not loosing much gas can be deadly especially if vehicle is in a garage or closed area cause the gas vapor is more of a problem than raw gas. there are lots of places that the leak could be coming from tank, lines, filter, evap system or the charcoal canister. much better to be safe than sorry, no need to have a major problem (possibly life threatening) develop over something that may be able to be fixed before hand.

My 92 saturn sl burns through gas way too fast. I barely make it 30 miles without having to fill up again. What do i need to do to get better gas mileage?

Need some more info. How much gas are you putting in it? Does it smell like raw gas at anytime? Under the hood or under the car? Possible broken (rusted) fuel line. Any service engine lights on? Does the car seem to run well?

2005 amante V6 started running rough, smell of raw gas, chk eng light on white smoke smelling of raw gas. changed plugs , wires, ran injecter cleaner through, gets about 1 mile per dollar of gas ....

Run a compression test. Sounds like a bad head gasket, letting coolant into the cylinder and causing misfire. I think you will find one (or two adjacent) cylinders have much lower compression than the others. There should not be more than 20% difference from highest to lowest.
