I have exactly the same problem and it appears to be a design flaw. The central roller on the baseplate (the plate that's in contact with the floor) disintergrates meaning that the faceplate is complete contact with the floor creating a vacuum. This then makes it almost impossible to use on smooth surfaces. I reported mine to dyson and they sent out a replacement brushhead. However, within three months of fitting the replacement part the same problem has re-occurred. Look like i'll need to call dyson again !!!!

The wheels are probably jammed and won't recline. Mine was stuck pretty bad, and after a half hour of trying to figure it out I just picked up the vacuum and slammed the wheels pretty hard, and it came loose. No problem since. Pushing on it hard did nothing, and gave me the impression I could break the vacuum, but all it needed was a good jolt.
