Computer power supply does not work

Need to know how old a computer it is as over the years the power supplies' use different methods of starting.

On newer computers the power supply is connected to the mother board by a 20 or 22 pin connector. The power button on the computer is just a momentary switch to start the computer. Make sure the large connector is firmly seated in the mother board. If you are comfortable with doing that have someone else check it. You do not want to damage the connector or mother board. You need to have some sort of anti static device conntected to your body to avoid any static discharge that could damage the mother board.

Replacing a mother board for gateway 506gr

make sure you install both connectors (8 pin and 4 pin) also make sure you didn't accidently flip the on/off switch on the actual power supply to off while you were working on it.

Intel D865GBF/D865PERC does this mother board support 450W SMPS or higher. If heigher how much Watt does the mother board support

You can install a 450w or higher wattage switch mode power supply.
The total wattage of the power supply you require depends upon the power consumption of all the devices that are installed on your computer and any additional devices you may wish to install in the future.
I suggest you need not exceed the total power requirements by more than 10%.
It is like putting a jet engine in your car when it does not need this much power and it would cost more money.

If it has onboard video it may be a bad video cable or messed up pin on one af the connectors. If it is a installed video card the cable could still be one problem but also try pulling the video card out unplugging the power supply cable from the mother board for about 20 seconds or so. Then reslot the video card into the mother board and plug the power supply back into the mother board and see if that helps. I have also had to take the small flat battery out of mother board for a second or two to make it reset. If you decide to do the battery thing make sure the power supply is unplugged from mother board. Good luck.=)

I have an AsusP5P 800 mother board and the unit won't power on.

I had a very similar issue like this, how many RAM modules do you have installed? if you have 2 DIMM installed try removing the memory on at at time(try interchanging the RAMS), see if turns on. if not might be the motherboard itself thats possibly defective.

Not able to switch on the mothere board. Green led on the board glows but the system is not powering on.

1. Check the mother board user manual 1st. To see how to properly install this mother boar to your PC cabinet or tower.
2. Check to see if you have the power from the power supply correctly connected
3. You may not have the proper watts or power from the power supply to power said mother board.
4. check the mother board battery it may not have proper voltage it should be 3.9 volts or more with a voltage meter check.
usually a 2025 button battery on the board
