U162 error on black ink cannon printer

This error occurs when printer fails detecting ink level or printer assume that no ink in the cartridge. We cannot use print, copy, scan, and fax function before the problem fixed. It's recommended for you to replace ink cartridge. To continue using the printer without replacing the cartridge we must deactivate ink level detection function. Be aware that printing in this condition can damage the printer while sending fax or scan is not problem.

Hi, I have a DCP6690CW Brother printer and have had some trouble with paper jams today, I have cleared the jam and now the display tells me "Unable to print 70". please advise, thanks Email:...

If you were sucessul in clearing the jams , it seems possible that this was done with the power connected and so it might have distrubed the communication of the printer drivers. so it might need a reset and so remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer driver software and then connect the Printer to be detected and installed as a new hardware. Check printer properties to see the ink levels.
Use head cleaning before a test is taken .

My Brother MFC-490CW will not acknowledge the new cartridge. I keep getting the error "Cannot Detect" "Reinstall Slowly" . I have performed this function no less than 50 times to no avail with multiple...

I don't know if this will solve your exact "cannot detect" problem, but it solved mine.

Problem: Cannot detect
Like other posters in this forum, I replaced all four of my ink cartridges at the same time when my MFC-490CW said they were all low. After I installed 4 (third-party brand) cartridges, the display said something like "Cannot detect ink cartridge, re-insert slowly" and indicated the cyan cartridge. Like many others, I tried this many times. I tried turning the power off, unplugging the power plug from the wall, different sequences of cartridge insertion, etc. None of this helped.

Solution: Clean the sensor
Much has been written here and in other places on the 'net about the trick of using electrical tape on the ink cartridge in the ink-level sensor window. I remembered seeing a good deal of ink on the outside of the cartridge as I removed it. This leaky ink cartridge had somehow coated either the sensor or it's associated light with blue ink, rendering it unable to detect the presence of a cartridge. I was able to clean the sensors with some Q-tips and isopropyl alcohol (not the optimum technique, but it was effective). Just to be sure, I swabbed the other sensors as I had removed all the cartridges to make room for my fat fingers. All sensors swabbed clean. The cyan was the only one covered in ink. I swabbed the cyan sensors with the alcohol until they were clean (maybe 20 Q-tips all total). I carefully dried the area with the Q-tips and let the alcohol evaporate for a minute then re-installed the ink cartridges...and printed a document. Yay!

As I said, this may not solve your particular "cannot detect" issue, but give it a try. It is a little messy but I'm back in action and hey, tattoos are hip. I just won't tell anyone why they're all the same color of blue and why I tattooed my fingers.
