The left side of paper comes out of my Dell 1320c printer very faint. Why?

If there is a toner cartridge in this printer, take it out and shake it. Do this outdoors in the event that come toner comes out in the process. Don't want to soil carpeting with toner! Sometimes the toner clumps up and doesn't spread throughout the cartridge. Shaking it, distributes the toner and allows printing more evenly.

There is a black line down one side of the paper. how do you get rid of that?

Your problem may be either a bad drum or fuser unit. Look at the drum and check for any scratches or toner there. Check the fuser unit for a black ring on it that may deposit toner onyour paper. Be careful as the fuser unit is quite hot! Also make sure the inside of the printer is clean. Y ou may vacuum it out. Caution! Don't blow it out with canned air. You'll just spread any toner all inside the printer.

It prints out a document with the center looking faded and spread with toner.

Is the spread toner fixed on paper or not? If it is, open the left door of the machine and see if the drum have dirt on its center. There is possibility that there is paper fiber on the cleaning blade of the drum.

If the toner is not fixed, probably the fixing film of your machine is torn on its center portion.

Change the developer in afficio 450

To remove the Dev. unit.
1. Open the right upper cover and front cover.
2. PCU. (☛ 3.11.1)
NOTE: Spread paper on a clean flat surface that is free of pins, paper clips,
staples, screws or any other metal objects.
3. Loosen [A] (! x1)
4. Rotate bracket [B] left.
5. Development unit [C]
NOTE: Pull slowly to avoid scratching or nicking the development roller.
6. Set the development unit on the spread paper.
7. If you are temporarily installing a used development unit for test purposes,
perform SP2-220 and 2-802-1 after installation (☛ Chapter 5, “Service Tables)

Replacing the Dev. material.
1. Development unit (☛ 3.12.1)
2. Remove the development roller (☛ 3.12.3)
3. Empty toner [A]
4. Turn drive gear [B] to ensure that no developer remains in the unit or on the
developer roller.
NOTE: Dispose of the used developer in accordance with local regulations.
Work carefully to avoid scratching or nicking the development roller.
5. Pour approximately 1/3 of the developer [C] evenly along the length of the
development unit.
6. Rotate the drive gear [D] to work the developer into the unit. Repeat [C] and [D]
until all toner is in the unit and level with the edges.
7. Reassemble the development unit
8. Cover the toner entrance hole [A] with a piece of paper.
9. Install the development unit in the machine.
10. Turn on the main power switch, make sure that the machine has warmed up,
then perform the TD sensor initial setting using SP 2-801.
NOTE: When performing this setting, cover the toner entrance hole with a
piece of paper. This prevents used toner falling from the PCU into the
development unit during the TD sensor initial setting and interfering
with the Vref setting (toner density reference voltage).
11. After performing the TD sensor initial setting, remove the sheet [A] from the development unit.

This is how you replace and reset (calibrate) the new Dev. material.

Smudges along the right side of the paper

Hi Scottmortona,

Welcome to FixYa!

I encountered this while printing my lecture notes for my students. This seems either a drum issue or the toner.

  1. Take out the toner.
  2. Ensure that the toner is evenly spread out by holding it horizontally, and tilt forward and backward.
  3. We need to ensure the toner is even.
  4. Take out the drum unit.
  5. Check are there any toner powder stuck on the sides of the drum?
  6. If so, use a soft brush and slowly brush off the toner stuck there.
  7. At the top of the drum, there is a blue notch. Slide this a few times to do a wire cleaning.
  8. Place the toner into the drum
  9. Place drum into printer now.
  10. Try printing a few pages.
Let us know if you have any problems.

Thank you for rating us.

Print paper

Not much,in most cases both can be switched, thermal is different, lasers use toner not ink, Premium inkjet paper has better ink asorbition properties with little spread, and paper designed for lasers can cope with the heat applied when it passes via the 180 deg fuser that melts the toner to it. Generally paper used in inkjets and laser is just standard 80gsm paper

Never use labels/transparentcy's designed for inkjets in laser machines they wont cope with the heat,
