This sounds like an overheating problem. Make sure your vents are free of dust & that the fan is spinning. If they are & it is then you might want to either consider upgrading the cpu fan or purchasing a laptop cooling pad to sit it on while working. Hope this helps.

IBM Thinkpad does not fire up; batt light blinks twice green, then turnsamber and powers down

I have a similar problem. I get the boot logo and then the system just shuts down. I found the problem to be the fan. Dust and debris clog the fan and keeps it from spinning up. I simply blew air into the fan opening on the left side and spun the fan up. This seems to work for a while, but it appears that I need to clean it more often as time goes by.

Laptop shuts down a few seconds after starting

My IBM is about the same as yours and did the same thing. It turned out to be a CPU Cooling Fan. When you turn the laptop on, try to look in the air outlet port and see if the fan is turning. Another possibility is lint and dirt around the fan. The unit has a temperature sensor that will shut the machine down on a "Hot CPU" signal.

Fan error problem

Sounds like the mother board thinks the processor fan isn't running at all, or not fast enough. Can you verify that the fan is running, by sound and the movement of air through the vents? If no fan/air movement then you should address that fan problem that your thinkpad has developed.
In case it's the fan and you decide to crack it open yourself? Let us know?

I recently replace the fan in my IBM Thinkpad R52. Ever since, when using the power cord it suddenly shuts down after booting for about 10 seconds. But if I use the battery it boots fine.

I would open the case back up to make sure nothing else got moved around when you installed the new fan. If it was close to where power plugs into the laptop, you might have knocked something loose that could be either stopping the fan and causing heat to shut you down, or causing a short when the fan varies its speed.

T30 fan error

Hi,

Well, the fan is either unplugged from it's socket, froze up, or completely clogged with dust, etc and is giving the bios reason to shut down.

Also tho, tell me, does the time and date keep needing to be reset?

Could be a cmos battery. Some of the older thinkpads were like that, although my T30 has never shown this problem.

Good luck
