Gold filled is simply a very thin layer applied to the base metal case and will wear off over time. Solid 10K gold is an alloy that is mixed with gold throughout and will always retain it's color and never wear off. The solid 10K gold case contains a lot more gold than then the gold filled version and will cost more up front. However, the gold filled case will look awful in a year or two while the solid 10K case will last as long as you keep the watch and beyond.

A 1100 wrench is a professional tool that shrinks the crystal applying balanced pressure to removed it without damaging it. Technically the part is a precision crystal compressor tool consisting in a metal wrench and adaptable rings. Here how it looks like (the one below is a 1200 - only the diameter is different - shape is the same) :
Once crystal is out the movement comes out through the front of the case, the back does not open and it is all in one piece
Don't try to open the watch by yourself. you will damage the case. The watch is still worth over $500. If you are located in USA I suggest contacting the professional repair below. If you are located elsewhere find a local Longines repairer or a vintage watch repairer.
