Question about Magic Chef Kitchen Ranges
Heat is well over600 degrees

The thermostat in the oven space has failed. Here is a general guide to replacement.
Note that the procedure is not simple, so you may want to call a service tech. If you do try it yourself, note that you MUST disconnect the supply voltage at the switchboard.

I have the exact problem. We had the ignitor replaced 2 already and it works for 18 months and stops. Occasionally, it the oven won't even start to heat. I am ready to throw it out.

SOURCE: Tappan Oven overheats!!
If you have electronic controls, you'll need either the temperature probe (about $60.00) or the clock (about $150.00). You can test the temperature probe from behind the machine. It should read about 1080 ohms at room temperature. if the probe is good, replace the clock.
If you have mechanical oven controls, you need a new thermostat. Is the too high temp consistent? (i.e. runs at 375F +/- 25F?) If so, you can usually adjust the thermostat **** to read closer to the actual temperature.
