Do not put it in hammer mode and try to unscrew the chuck! This will break the housing internally. To remove the chuck you will have to put a chisel in the chuck. Lock that chisel in a big vice. You will then have to put a pipe wrench on the chuck to unscrew it. It is regular threads but there will be loctite on it. Once that is off your will have a spring and two roller bearings to remove before you can slide the bell off. You will then have 8 5MM screws to remove. This will remove the chuck. You will then have a snap ring to remove. After that you can remove the whole cylinder assy. More then likely your connecting rod is broken.

SOURCE: will a Hilti TE 17 to drill 1" holes in sandstone?

The TE 17 is at least 29 years old. It will do up to an inch. However there are no parts available for this tool. Also be carefull if it has a black fill cap on top of the gear housing then it does not have a safety clutch. If it has a red one then it does have a clutch.

The TE-70 is permantly lubricated. You would only add lubricant if you took the tool apart. You can add a small amount of grease to the end of your bit occasionally before putting in the chuck. This keeps the chuck parts lubed.

It takes 70 cc of oil in the gear casing. Too much oil will snap the connecting rod. If it did not have oil in it there might be a leak somewhere

First thing you should do is contact Hilti's customer service @ 1-800-879-8000. they can get you any parts you need. Ask them to run the serial number. it is possible that that tool is still under their 2 year warranty.

We have a Hilti TE72 Hammer Drill.... We have taken it to fix but they say they can't find parts... We think it is the piston and a rubber gasket that goes with the piston.... Do you have this?

Parts are no longer available for the TE72. You may find some used parts on EBAY. If the tool is not hammering it would need more than the piston and oring that goes on the pistion. Without all the proper seals and gaskets I would not even attempt to repair. If you do attempt to repair it do not put more than 70cc of lube in the drill. Too much oil will distroy the gears.

Hilti TE 17. Hammer doesnt work. Rotary does.

Most likely the O-rings are worn - tool has no compression to move the hammers inside.
Less likely: the connecting rod for the piston is broken so piston isn't moving - or 2nd hammer is broken into pieces.
I would open it up & check the orings first

HILTI TE 72 STOPPED HAMMERING BUT STILL WILL DRILL

It could be that your connecting rod is broken. You can check by taking your shift lever off of the top of the gear housing and then removing the snap ring to remove the shift boss. That will allow you to look at the crankshaft and connecting rod. If it is broken I would check with Hilti to see if they still carry parts for the TE 72.
