SOURCE: My keypad is also dead.

No, but as with all electronic items faulty ones typically show themselves up during the first few months of use.

You've probably just been one of the unlucky ones.

SOURCE: have model jvm1740sm1ss ...keypad has shorted

This should be the correct parts listing for the model number you have provided:

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model.php?mn=JVM1740SMSS01&man=&mid=&brand=GEH&pmid=0

Here is another part listing which is a slight variation of your model. The part numbers are still the same, however:

http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model.php?mn=JVM1740SM2SS&man=&mid=&brand=GEH&pmid=0

I believe the model number should read "JVM1740SMSS01". If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

If these links do not work, go to pcappliancerepair.com.

Here's another listing available at appliancepartspros.com:

GE Advantium 120 gives message keypad shorted. None of the buttons are working. How can I order a new keypad?

please follow this steps before to order any keypads. God bless you
However if after you did this steps go to http://www.appliancepartspros.com

  1. Controller is confusedA power surge or random non-reproducible action of the universe may have resulted in the controller's program ending up in an infinite loop. Pull the plug for a minute or two to reset it.
  2. Defective Interlock switchesThis can result in the controller thinking the door is open and ignoring you.
  3. CleaningCleaning solutions (spray cleaner) may have gotten inside and shorted out the touchpad or controller. If this happens remove the touchpad, let it air dry for a few days, and then attach it back on the microwave.

Screen displays -SE- , none of the keypad buttons work

The word -SE- , means systems error, the cause is a short in the membrane of the keypad. The only solution is the keypad must be replaced.

The keypad does not work. The display screen says "Press -----k". I'm assuming it's telling me to press clock to set time. But none of the keys work when I press any. Earlier only the Start/Pause key...

try powering down for 30 seconds. if that doesn't work the keypad is shorted or open. do not spray cleaner directly onto key pad when cleaning. it will short it out. rather spray cleaner onto a rag then wipe.

I report from owner manual.

F3 means : Short circuit on key panel (your touch pad).
You get F3 error if a shorted key panel is detected for more than 60 seconds.
Solution: . Replace key panel (touch pad).

Try first unpluggign power cord for five minutes.

If you think that the problem may had been caused by water inside the keypad you can try using an hairdryer on the keypad, taking care not to melt the keypad plastic.
If that does not work, then replace the keypad.

You can buy replacements here. or Order GE Microwave Ovens Parts Here
