According to HP, You can run 2 monitors on this machine. the problem is that one of them has to be a VGA and the other one must be a DisplayPort monitor. The display port connector looks similar to an HDMI port but is not the same. There are adapters that claim to convert DisplayPort to VGA but I've had mixed results trying to use them. I KNOW they don't work on some Lenovo monitors. You can find your specs here:
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01549447&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0002
the monitors should be connected and then the machine powered up. you should be able to right click on the desktop and go to properties and configure the monitors

Install both computers withdual monitors

Ok, so the idea of this KVM is to allow two computers which are dual monitor enabled to share one set of dual monitors. This means that PC1 can output to two monitors at once and PC2 can output to two monitors at once, however you only have two monitors.
You should take two cables and plug in both to the dual display output on PC1 (if supported) and then plug them into 'A/B' Computer 1, you should then take two cables and plug them into the dual display output on PC2 (if supported) and plug them into 'A/B' Computer 2.
Now take two cables and plug one into Monitor A and connect this to one of your screens and plug one into Monitor B and plug this into your other screen.

You should see this in the diagram here: http://www.linkskey.com/detail.php?Productid=165

Only one PC can be used at a time.
To support this the back of EACH PC should have a graphics card with two VGA output connections like this:

You should have 2 video ports on the 8400 GS card. One is the standard 15 pin VGA port and the other is the DVI port. You should be able to use these ports on the card to connect dual monitors. If you use the video port integrated on the motherboard you will bypass the 8400 GS card. Here's a link from Microsoft about running dual displays:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/organization/twomonitors.aspx
The other issue is whether your monitors are DVI compatible.

INstalled video card to D945 Intel board, and now the onboard video does not work. I wish to run 2 monitors with same input.

Unfortunately most basic motherboard chipsets do not support multiple monitor setups.

They are designed to become inactive when you connect a slot based video card.

to use 2 monitors you would need to connect them both to the card in the slot if it supports dual monitors.

The easiest way would be to purchase a video card that has 2 vga ports on it, allowing dual monitor support. Here is an example.

You'll need a dual-monitor video card in your computer. The GVLM1928 is basically two monitors on a shared stand. Each side of the monitor has a separate video connection.

Dual display

On some bios's, you can turn on both your onboard video card and keep that enabled while using the other monitor. However i reccomond you buy a video card that supports a dual monitor system without need for tweaking. Otherwise the simple answer for your issue is no and will require much more work than a conventional dual monitor system.

Switch to alternate 2 computers and dual monitors

What you probably want is a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch that supports dual monitors. It's a simple device that allows you to plug multiple computers into one set of monitors, keyboard, and mouse and switch between controlling them.

I don't know of any that support mixing analog and digital connections for the monitors, but using a VGA to DVI adapter for one of the monitors should solve that problem cheaply.
