Regretfully, Western Digital drives have been known to fail and the sign is a fail to recognize, and the infamous clicking. I've not found any solution other than attempt data recovery with Disk Warrior or something similar.. There are data recovery companies but they aren't cheap...

Rather than the drive reading "my book" it now reads local disc and a window wants me to format the drive. I chose not to because I was afraid everything would get wiped out. I tried a different cable, thinking the cable had gone bad, but had the same result. A quick and incomplete Autoplay shows up but then there is nothing in the drive, and of course, as I said above, the drive is now known as local disc rather than My Book Exactly the same problem :(

It goes 2 sleep during boot up it gets to the bar thingy the it goes to sleep,I still hear it whirring in there though. Then I get the blue screen any tips please this is my only hope in using my laptop (the lights turn off but it still makin noise I was able to install xp on it fine WTF ).I accidentally forgot to plug it in during a system recovery so I'm screwedwahhh!! (I don't wanna format my acer's HD unless it neccassary bcause I wanna recover it with discs. Any help plz??
