Backlight doesn't work on RM826

From the manual:

This alarm clock radio features an adjustable display backlight, with dim, medium, and bright settings. To select a backlight setting, press the Snooze/Dimmer Bar until the desired brightness is reached.

Press the DATE/ALARM key once to show the alarm time.
The ((.)) icon is displayed in the lower left portion of the screen to alert you that the display is showing the alarm time. To return to the month and date display, press the DATE/ALARM key once.

remove charger,
remove battery

press and hold the power on button for 1min

place battery

press power on button,

if it doesnt light up, then check your memories chips. try another one

The backlight can be adjusted as follows:

Please note that the backlight will not work while the clock is operating on battery power.

Press at the same time plus and minus buttons, thats all.

• Display Backlight - (Not available on earlier models.) The display backlight improves display contrast in low lighting conditions. Selecting backlight ON will turn the light on for a short period of time after any button is pressed. Selecting backlight OFF (default) will keep the light off. Turn the display backlight feature ON as follows: 1. Press TIME and RUN buttons at the same time. The display will show "d-L" and "OFF" alternately

1. look at the side with the most buttons.
2. select channel you want to set, eg, channel 3 button near top.
2. slide the outer casing down 1cm to reveal 5 extra buttons.
4. from 5 extra buttons, press diamond with arrow button, then plus or minus button to find station, then diamond again to set.

This is the link to the PDF, you should have no problems printing it. If you can't print then read the instructions from the computer while you set the clock.

It has to be set to do that. Daylight savings time is not universal, even in the U.S.

A couple things to try:

1st check the backlight settings

Turn on Backlighting and Control Brightness To use your device in dark environments, enable the automatic backlighting feature:

1. From the Jump screen, press MENU then select Settings > Battery & Display.
   
   
2. In the second group box, select the Turn on backlight when using device check box.
   
   
3. Highlight, then select the Brightness slider to open it for editing. Roll the TRACKBALL right to increase brightness; roll the TRACKBALL left to decrease brightness. After you've made the adjustment, press the TRACKBALL to exit edit mode.
   
   
4. Select the length of time you want backlighting to stay on from the Turn off after pop-up menu.
   
   
5. To use the device's light meter while the backlight is on, select the Use ambient light sensor check box.
   
   
6. Press JUMP to return to the Jump screen and save your setting.
   

Now, when you press any button or key, or flip open the screen, backlighting will turn on for the set amount of time. Note that as long as you press a key or button before the set time elapses, the backlight will stay on.
Tips:

• Even if you have not selected automatic backlighting, you can turn on backlighting at any time by pressing MENU + JUMP . The backlight will remain on for the time specified in the Backlight Turn off after pop-up menu.
  
  
• When in key guard mode, you can turn on the backlight by pressing the RIGHT SHOULDER button.

If it still does not work, then you can try resetting the flex cable to the lcd.

Reseat the SidekickFlex cable

If that doesn't fix it then a new lcd assy will take care of the issue. they run about 45 dollars on ebay.
