Fan fell over and has a terrible burning smell and stopped working

I have a older vornado air circulator and i use it propped on a chair so it blows on me while in bed. I woke up in middle of the night and it had stopped working, it had a terrible burning smell and fell on its face... I am wondering how dangerous this was and if its worth fixing

SOURCE: Fan stopped working

It's possibly a lubrication problem. I can't seem to keep mine lubricated, so good luck with yours.

SOURCE: My dryer just stoped working.

Chances are it may just need a new connector in the back where the power cord connects. Check it and see if you can tell where any wires have been damaged. This is usually very easy to do with little or no disassembly.

SOURCE: Our Vornado 215 fan gives off a burning smell

I would not use this fan any further. It sounds like the motor is burning a coil or has already done so. This is a huge fire hazard.

I just bought one of these and a friend says there are many applications for use. What else can I use this fan for besides blowing at me directly?

fans are designed to move air only
whether this is at you, around the room, to move hot air from the ceiling, blow fumes away, exhaust an area or what ever
some fans have an accessory where there is a small pump and a spray of water behind the fan but these are specifically designed so that there is no possibility of electrocution from the water contact with the power

I have an older Vornado 280B (it looks just like the current 730 series with the small stand). I've been able to remove the front grill & clean it and the blades, but now I'd like to remove the rear...

It's similar to the 600 and 700 series based on a picture of those compared to the 280b model I have.

No Heat!

Sometimes too much dust around the heating elements can cause the heater to switch off to prevent a fire. Check for dust build up first. You can try using a can of compressed air that can be found at many electronic stores.
