SOURCE: loose door handle
DON'T remove the cover yourself unless you fully undertand the SAFETY issues involved in working inside a microwave oven. A microwave oven is possibly THE MOST DANGEROUS common consumer product to service. Usually with these doors, the latching parts tend to loosen up at times, thus requiring some re-adjustment and tightening. Sometimes they get a bit warn and require to be replaced. The handle by itself about $40, apparently GE doesn't know how to make a door handle that will hold up for more than a year or so. I just bought a new door off of eBay for $20 + $20 shipping ... a deal compared to the $135 + tax and shipping that most of the web sites want! All you need is a phillips screwdriver and a 5/16" socket. To get to 3 screws that anchor the TOP hinge, simply remove the vent grill (open the door and remove the 2 white screws that hold it in place). To get to the 2 screws that anchor the BOTTOM hinge, simply remove the 6 screws that hold the grey bottom pan of the microwave in place. The pan will swivel down, remaining attached in the back panel. Once you've removed the 5 hinge screws, the door should pull pretty much straight out. Reverse the procedure with the new door, which should come with hinges attached. Could be that the place the spring sits in is a little broken, so theres no stop for the spring. open it up and see if there's anything you can do with it, try some epoxy putty maybe. Good luck

If your owner's manual doesn't cover lamp replacement, you will have to take the oven apart to do it.
If you don't have your manual, you should be able to download it from here.
I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. Other models are similar. It's here.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and for many brands by entering your full model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383
Otherwise, please reply back with your model number so we can help you.

I have never replaced a handle on a microwave. I was looking at mine. If I have to guess how to get to the screw behind the panel, I would guess the inside cover needs to be popped out. Now a day, all the covers are snapped together. Be careful not to break it.
Or look for your manual, or look it up on the web.

Yes, you're right about the screws. The inner door is held by clips. Just pop it out using a butter knife or something similar. You might need to remove the door from hinges first (It's been too long after I repaired one of these, so I don't remember exactly).

you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo)
and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.
Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) here that demonstrates how it's done.
