IBM Wheelwriter 10 Series II

I cleaned off labels and gunk on the platen.  Now only the upper parts of letters appear when typing.  Tried a new ribbon and that didn't work.

Thanks for your response. I tried realigning the platen and the problem is the same. I'll keep trying , since that may be the solution. I just don't want to push too hard and break anything.

Perhaps the paper tray is not seated properly or even in backwards, check that also the black latches do crack and not properly latch, if so you may need a new platen.

I assume you had the platen out and now it is not seated all the way in. Be sure the black latches are aligned with the side frames then push the platen FIRMLY down.

Will only type half a letter

See if letter is on the ribbon correctly full character or half, could be ribbon feed or the IBM have locks that hold the platen (RUBBER ROLLER) in place , I think they were blue squeezze parts on each side may they have come up and the platen is not seated properly.

Wheelwriter 30 series II. was typing OK but now get only less than half of letter to print. replaced ribbon same thing. tried adjusted ribbon (now sure was in right area) and still only printing less...

If it is printing only the tops of the letters the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place. If the print is generally bad the plastic print solenoid cap is probably broken. We sell them for 20.00 includes shipping and instructions.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

If it is only typing the top half of the letters the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, push down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

Only part of a letter appears when typed

You can try code I to increase the impression but probably the print solenoid is gummy or the plastic solenoid is broken. We sell the caps with installation instructions for 20.00 includes freight. DickyO Cleveland Business Machines 216-241-0027

IBM Wheelwriter 30 series II - prints only half a letter

If it types only the top half yhe platen is probably not all the way in. Make sure the 2 black latches are lined up with the side frames then press down firmly on both sides of the platen.

Only typing half letters and numbers

On the WheelWriter series, sometimes the platen may pop out of position, causing only half the letters to print. If this is the case, easially solved... Using the left and right platen knobs, firmly push down to lock it back in place. Hope this helps....MediaMan
