Question about Durabrand Audio Players & Recorders
Some DVD's work, some do not. Brand new DVD even does not work. What happens is first I put the DVD into the player. The Display window on the DVD player will read as the DVD is loading. The DVD player will continue to try loading it for maybe a minute. Then the DVD player's display window will read "BAD".

SOURCE: Bad Disc
First determine where the problem lies. This can be done by analyzing what is happening. Is the disc spinning. Is it spinning erratically? If the disc is not spinning, the spin motor is probably defective. But sometimes you can be fooled, if the laser does not detect information of the disc, it will not issue a start spin motor command. If you can get the unit to work with the door open by defeating the switches,(Do not under any circumstances look directly into the laser)If you see the laser then the spin motor is bad, In either case the unit is is probably cheaper to replace than to repair. some times when you create DVD movies by high speed DVD writers, your data cannot be read by dvd player with high performance. it s due to speed mismatching. always write DVDs with Normal speed in order to use with DVD players. while in case oof PC-DVD -Rom it does not happens. it can read any high speed wriiten DVDs. DVD-Rom in PC are more precise than DVD players. Some times Weak DVD player Lens system can also mis read.

jusguessin should call Toshiba quickly. The units have a 1 year
warranty. Do not open the unit or it will void your warranty (I know, I
do Toshiba warranty repairs on their recorders. If anything will make
be void a warranty, it's a consumer who opens the unit and pokes around
mooch, clean the laser head. I wish I could refer you to a FAQ because this is about the 10th time today I have written this.
Open the unit. Remove the DVD drive. Take the top off of the DVD drive. Clean the lense with a q-tip with a little windex on it. Work the head up and down gently. Reassemble and test. If problem presists, go buy a new one.
