I have an HP Media Center PCm7360n. It doesn't seem to boot up. No "beeping" sound, fans stay in high speed, black screen. Could this be a motherboard problem?

Video card is a Radeon 2600 Pro. Hard drive is a Model 6L300S0 Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA.

The coin battery on the motherboard is drained. That will cause it not to boot. Replace the battery and reset the time and date and you're good to go.

Alot of problems with the HP.

First thing is make sure when you changed the battery you would need to check the jumper that allows you reset the BIOS and let you use the computer.

The other is the fan speeds it normally should go a little high not so high but in your case the CMOS battery that was installed could cause some things not to work especially if it supports PCI-E. The motherboard in your system must have a dual video connector. One is on the board and one is on the PCI-E. Make sure the monitor is plugged into the right port. It should work after that. If not remove the PCI-E card and see if it works with the onboard connector.

Continous beeps usually mean the motherboard or the power supply, Try another power supply first and see if it will boot, if not the motherboard is faulty, if the prossesor was faulty you would no beeps the fans would run but nothing on the screen. hope this helps.

You have a very tough problem. You need to remove the outside metal to get to the motherboard. Look carefully to see if a card has lifted out of the board connector. See if the fan on the CPU is plugged in and running. If not, your CPU is probably fried. If it looks good, try removing the RAM chips and boot up to see if you get a beep code. This is good if you do. Put the chips back in order and take out an external video card. See if you get beeps ( you may not have this card, it may be built in) See if a lot of dust has collected everywhere and clean it up. try tightening up whatever you can and try booting again with your finger holding down a keyboard key. This should cause an error and a beep code. If it does, try booting normal, going into setup with either esc del or F10. If you get to post you have won.

Computer beeps and fails to start

If there was recent hardware added to it or RAM then try removing it and boot up. You can try resetting the RAM. You can also check all cables and power within the case to make sure everything is connected properly. Listen for the fan on the PC, if the fan doesn't start up then it could be an overheated mother board. Beeps can mean a number of different things. If there's no error on the screen then it probably isn't getting further then the BIOS. I hope that helps.

The problem is with the inverter board. It is pulling down the main power supply and cycling it on and off (crowbaring). If you disconnect the power supply cable to the board, the power supply will stay up and the power on lamp will cycle as normal. There seems to be a problem with one of the high voltage transformers on the board. I will let you know if I can find a suitable replacement of if there is a way to get an inverter board inexpensively. Good luck!
