What kind of wireless access point or extender should I use to project wifi in far bedrooms of a long, train-car like house?

Hi James, the wireless extender is the best way but you should go for the plug in type.....this plugs into the mains and gives you wifi and 1 wired connection, so you can plug into the room you want wifi to reach, I have linked a Netgear option but there are others! EX2700

The most common answer you may see is "your internet is not fast enough"

But there are lots other reasons -
1- try using a Wired connection rather than WiFi. Wireless is great but its so unreliable sometimes. A baby monitor or a lot of neighbours wifi can interfere.

2. Make sure no one else is using all your bandwidth in the house.

3. If its a laptop - Try you device in another house/cafe/free zone if possible - if its still choppy then the laptop might want a clean and tune up. maybe there is too much running on it - use the startup tab in msconfig.exe to remove any software you don't really need running in the background -
note: you can safely disable everything in the Startup Tab ONLY - don't touch the services tab.

How can i get internet?

The Nintendo 3DS connects to internet through wifi so the only way to get internet on it is to have a good Wifi connection wherever your 3DS is. So to get that you must either have a router in your house that creates a wifi connection in your home. If you only need it once though to download an update or something like that you can always go to a starbucks or Mcdonalds which has free wifi and just connect there.

Wifi on thinkpad

i believe you are getting service interupt this can be caused by other signals in the house or outside blocking you wifi
try moving comp closer to the signal of modem
see if this helps
some wifi's are not stong enough signal and gets disconnected
also someone can be back dooring your wifi signal to steal it
this i would call local cable company you are serviced with and have them test your wifi for intrusions

Acer 3003LCi - Wireless Connection

It seems the two oval lights on the front of the Acer TravelMate 3003LCi are not only lights to indicate WiFi traffic, but also buttons to turn the WiFi radio on and off for security reasons. If you press and hold the left side button for 3-5 seconds it should turn back on the WiFi radio. Windows XP (and maybe other OS’s) have a power saving function that turns the radio off when not in use to save the battery, so you have to use the buttons to turn the radio back on. Seems like a pain in the @$$ to me, but it’s a clients laptop not mine so he will have to live with that.

I hope this helps someone so they do not have to go through the frustration of trying to figure out why the radio has been turned off.
