Won't power on

Poweredge R710 is currently 3 and a half years old. The server currently turns on and you can here the fan spinning but it never displays anything on the screen and the 3 drives it has light up once then turn off. The fan is operating at a very high rate and is extremely loud.

These rackmount servers are really loud and are meant to be run in a data closet.

Start my checking the ram - remove all but one stick (cant remember if these work in pairs). The idea is to check each stick to see if you have a dead stick.

These servers do a full system check often before you will see any video.

Are you hearing any beeps?

Testimonial: "That worked, it was bad RAM but now it won't boot past the POST. It will however boot from the optical drive using a server 2008 disc. I just get a blinking underscore. All HD lights are green."

SOURCE: Bootup Problem - Dell Poweredge 2650

Process of elimination? I first thought it may be a power problem but I could not understand the LED flashing (It still maybe a power problem) If you can leave on charge for 4-5 hours more if you can make sure the light is not flashing (That is turn the laptop off at the power switch) Try turning on after being on charge for as long as you can If that does not work it may be the bios with the wrong setting or the Hard Drive is faulty (The more I think about it I think it may the the last issue) Try the other steps first the turn on holding the DELETE button it (I think that is the button to access the bios ) This with work if the Hard is Good or bad)

SOURCE: Blue light flashing

Someone has pushed the system identification button on the front of the server. If you push it again the light will be solid blue.

SOURCE: No power on my PowerEdge 1800 Server

dells power supplies must come from dell. I would call dell and give then the service tag number of your server and they will be able to tell you about how much a power supply is.

My server name is powerEdge2900 and SAS Hard Disk. My server have RAID(Mirror). I lost my password of my server. I want to break RAID.How can possible? please ans. me .........

What raid is it in? For example if your server is in a raid 5 you needto take out hard drives enough to only have 2 in place and then put 2 more in to make a total of four and get it to rebuild it.

Please advise that you are taking it at your own risk and that you seek my solution as your last one. Thanks

Replacing Server HDD

Hello here is the homepage:

http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/poweredge-r710

Yes, that will be okay.

But a SSD harddrive is much faster, than the old mecanical one.
I know they are a little more expensive, but you will see a speed improvement, you have newer seen before.

Good luck

Problem to install poweredge r710 can nor detect sata hard disk

That is an impressive piece of kit. Is it under warranty ?
You should probably have it professionally serviced but you can always check whether it detects a known good drive. You can also test the suspect drive in another system.
Before you do anything ask yourself: What changed last (or recently)? There find you will that which disturbs the force.

Make sure that the connectors are all fully inserted. This means both the power and the data cables. Try different cables and a different power plug.

Dell PowerEdge 2300 Server won't boot

To power off using the power button, press and hold in for more than four seconds.

However this is not solving your problem of not booting, needs some more information. Such as Beeping noises, number and length of beeps. Or any LED.s flashing?

Dell PowerEdge R710 Installation error I have the same problem while installing Windows Server 2003 installation process reach to the step asking press F8, when pressing F8 it says no Hard Drive were...

ok you will need to get the windows 2003 drivers for your raid controller and put them on a floppy disk. when you first boot off the cd you will see a prompt to press f6 if you need to install any additional drivers. insert the floppy disk and select which driver you wish to load.
you should be able to see the hard drives now to partition/format.

Poweredge 1500sc, i hear a continues beeping noise. i looked in the back of the server and the fans are spinning? what could it be? I've only used 50% of the memory?

Is it overheating?
Is the video-card "loose" ?
Remove the RAM, and reseat it, to make sure that it is properly connected.
Is one of the fans *NOT* spinning?

Dell PowerEdge 2300 - Monitor, keyboard and mouse will not respond

It sounds like the power supply is failing.

Failing power supplies will sometimes deliver just enough power to make the fans spin but not enough for the motherboard and drives to start.

I hope this helps.

How i turn off a fan from motherboard

The fans that are plugged into the motherboard are usually powered by the motherboard. To turn them off, simply unplug them as there is always a power flow going through the motherboard and even more to power the fans when the system is running. I would recommend keeping the fan in if possible to help with cooling your PowerEdge 1400 server, but if it must be removed, simply power your server down, and unplug the fan. Make sure your server is powered off before doing this, as you don't want to short anything out or cause a spark.
