Question about Marvel Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have an older Marvel 6BARMA 110700009 that runs constantly. Been doing this for probably 6 months now. At lowest setting just a bit of frost appears in the back. If I put it halfway to the coldest seclection the whole left side freezes. It holds the correct temp at all settings. I have cleaned the coils and all around door to make sure good seal. Is this a freon issue or thermistor issue or something else. Thank you in advance.

If this is a freon issue should it have run out of freon by now? I think it has been freezing up for well over 6 months now. When I turn it off you have hear the freon hissing inside no problem. THANK YOIU

Hello Rob. There is a drain hole in the back of the fridge which leads to a little pan. when this hole gets blocked the water accumulates in the fridge leading to ice forming. And yes, a good seal around the door prevents ice build up also. Hope this helped Good Day

Leonard, Thank you for your comment. I already went through and cleaned the coils and drain hole to make sure everything was flowing when I defrosted it 2 days ago. What else could it be? Thank you!

SOURCE: Whirlpool refrigerator side by side door seal very hot

when you said fans working....does it include the condenser fan? or it may have two evaporator fans..

if condenser fan is working, then it is just normal. if the compressor is running, that part would really heat up. and if it is too hot, then the condenser fan could probably not running.

its not constant because the compressor cuts off when ever the thermostat cuts off.

SOURCE: fresh food side freezing

the air damper is stuck open or tempature control is bad. look thru the vents(use a mirror) on the left rear(top side) of the fresh food compartment (right hand door) to see if the air damper is open/closed. i am sure it will be open since your freezing food in the ref section. if it is open ,watching with your mirror turn ref (fresh food) control off. the air dmper should close, if not damper could be stuck(ice build up,piece of foam, ect) if you can determine damper door is free, then best thing to do is replace controlassy.(120.00 or so) good luck

SOURCE: GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

Hi Marcia

We would think the harness setting should probably be on the lowest for a 6 month old baby / the most appropriate height for the baby depending on their height.

To fix up a frosted up vents, I had a control board replaced for $180. Then 6 months later, the bottom freezer frost up AGAIN. rather than dumping more money to fix it, I was about to buy a new fridge, but had a crazy idea: I disconnected the water to the freezer, bought plastic trays for ice cubes for $3 at walmart. Fridge has worked like a charm for 6 months. no signs of frost. Saved $1000's.

Each refrigerator is different so a make and model would help in answering your questions!

Normally the middle position is 5 is normal, but that depends on the environment that the unit is in. Usually, there are two dials in the refrigerator section - one controls the temperature in the freezer and the other in the refrigerator.

Most refrigerators that are less than ten years old are frost free, so if your unit is a frost free unit you would need to troubleshoot the defrost circuit (defrost heater, defrost thermostat or defrost timer). But if it is an older refrigerator, then you will need to take all the food out of the unit and then unplug the unit and leave for 8-12 hours with the doors left open.

Manuals depend on a make and model. And if it is an older unit, you will probably have to buy a manual from one of the on-line kitchen appliance manual places.

What is the proper setting to take the moisture out of the basement?

The lowest setting that the unit shows on the LCD screen. Usually 35 to 45% is the best setting for a basement. However, if the ambient room temperature at floor level is between 40 and 60 degrees F, it may struggle a bit or the coolant coils may frost over a bit. If this is the case (air temperature, wise), get the unit up off the floor on to something that is sturdy and can handle the weight and vibration of the compressor running.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

The temperature dial is set at its lowest reading and still the refrigerator runs constantly and vegetables are frost bitten.

Potentiometer may be off or the compressor may be stuck open. Call a serviceman. It costs 40-60 bucks in my area.

Marvel 61WC Wine Frige Won't Turn Off

Check he frost pattern on your evaporator. That is a plate sensing control and if the system developes a freon leak you will have frost on the beginning of the cycle (middle bottom and travels to the left, then across the top middle, then to the right and back to the lower middle) but not at the end where the thermsitor senses temperature. This will cause the unit to run almost continously no-matter what setting you have it on. If this is so, you need to have the leaking component repaired/replaced. You will not want to let your unit run like this since the longer you do..the more components will get damaged. If you are still with-in your warranty period, contact your dealer to initiate service. If not, contact any appliance repair shop you trust in your area. I hope this helps.

Marvel wine refrigerator running, but not cooling

If your unit runs but does not cool, you have a "sealed system" issue. Either you are low on refrigerant which would be evident by frost build-up near the area where the freon first enters the evaporator plate. (lower middle, then travels left) or the compressor has lost the ability to develop the necessary differential pressure. You do not want to run the unit like that...you can **** in contaminants that will harm the compressor if you already haven't. You should contact a servicer to get it repaired. If you are still within the warranty period you should contact the dealer you got it from to initiate service.
