WiFi Router must be placed in higher position than users's computer. To get better signal, make an experiment with extended USB cable, and with additional USB Wireless adapter if needed.

What kind of wireless access point or extender should I use to project wifi in far bedrooms of a long, train-car like house?

Hi James, the wireless extender is the best way but you should go for the plug in type.....this plugs into the mains and gives you wifi and 1 wired connection, so you can plug into the room you want wifi to reach, I have linked a Netgear option but there are others! EX2700

What kind of wireless access point or extender should I use to project wifi in far bedrooms of a long, narrow house?

Yes. You are right on track with hard wiring the extender unit. You can also daisy chain another router to that at a distance that is closer to the furthest room. This will give you plenty of signal through out your house.

How to set up netgear ex6100 wifi range extender

Overview:
This article describes how to set up a NETGEAR EX6100 in Extender Mode
The extender connects wirelessly to your existing WiFi network, and then it creates a new WiFi extended network and links the two WiFi networks.
Symptoms:
Cannot connect to extender
Extender broadcasting EX6100_NETGEAR_2GEXT
Extender broadcasting EX6100_NETGEAR_5GEXT
Extender cannot access Internet or network
Process:
1. Place your extender in the same room as your WiFi router.
2. Plug the extender into an electric outlet and wait one minute. The PowerLED lights green.
If the Power LED does not light, press the Power button on the side.
3. Make sure that the mode switch on the extender is set to Extender.
4. Use a WiFi network utility on a computer or mobile device to find and connect to the EX6100_NETGEAR_2GEXT or EX6100_NETGEAR_5GEXT (SSID) WiFi network.
Note: EX6100_NETGEAR_2GEXT and EX6100_NETGEAR_5GEXT are the default name of your extender's wireless networks, and by default it is unsecured. If you changed the wireless name or security in the past, connect to the new name or enter the passphrase when prompted. EX6100_NETGEAR_5GEXT is only visible if your wireless adapter is 5 GHz capable.
After the wireless connection with the computer or mobile device is established, the Client Link LED lights solid green.
5. Open a web browser window from the same computer or mobile device. The browser takes you directly to NETGEAR genie Smart Setup.
Note: If you are not automatically directed to NETGEAR genie, launch an Internet browser and type www.mywifiext.net in the address field of the browser. Enter admin for the user name and password for the password.
6. Select a 2.4GHz WiFi network to extend and click the Continue button.
7. Type the network passphrase (also called password or security key) in the Passphrase field and click the Continue button.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 to select a 5GHz WiFi network.
Note: If your router does not support the 5GHz band, click the Skip button.
9. Select Private Network(home network) or Public Network radio button, and click Continue.
Note: Selecting Public Network will enable NAT and DHCP on the EX6100. For more info on NAT refer to: What is NAT (Network Address Translation)?
10. Type the name (SSID) for your WiFi extended network in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Network Name (SSID) field and click the Continue button.
Note: You can use the same security settings as your existing network by selecting the Use the same security mode check box.
The WiFi extended network settings are applied.
11. Use a WiFi network manager on a mobile device or computer to connect to the extenders newly created WiFi network.
12. Click on the check box and click on Continue to finalize the installation.
13. Unplug the extender and move it to a new location closer to the area with a poor WiFi signal.
Note: The location you choose must be within the range of your existing WiFi router network.
14. Plug the extender into an electrical outlet and wait one minute. The Power LED lights green. Connect to the extender network and enjoy the extended Wifi network.

How can i boost and speed up my Wifi network reception ?

Firstly download WiFi Analyser from Google Play store and compare you WiFi with others in your area. This will enable you to change the channel. Change channel by logging into your router - 192.168.1.1.
Try moving your router to a more central place in your home and use the analyser to check if any improvement.
Next try a wireless extender. This will drop your speed a little but give a stronger signal in weak areas.
Also try power line adapters.
If you are using a few devices ensure that you are not mixing wireless g and n products at same time. Using a g product will mean that your whole wireless will be running at that speed even when your other device is n. If you need both connect another g router to one of the n router LAN ports with dhcp disabled. That way you can have the two devices connected at the correct speed.
Some routers will let you connect a bigger aerial which could boost you reception. Some devices have very poor wireless antennas - seems you what you pay for in this area.

10.0.0.1 is called local loop not host ..not an IP OR DHCP address..if u want to use his wifi connection u just need to config ur wirless adapter with his router..not ur router to his router.. u also need to fig out what and how he is config...CABLE or BROADBAND ..>?
not all wirless is compatible with all routers such as PPOE OR CABLE ETC>> contact his provider for the settings u need..BOOST attenennas are cheap now and can give u a stronger signal\

Wifi

it might be the security that is messing it up... try to access users interface of the extender using your NOte... open a browser type in mywifiext.net/start.htm then change the wireless name of the extender to any name and then change the security to wep ... type in on the key 1 box any 10 digits numbers ONLY... and then apply

try to reconnect ur devices to the new extenders name the new password will be the 10 digits number you created. see if that helps... :)

What is the best way to extend range of DIR 615 please? I have just changed from a Netgear Router which worked fine and gave a lot stronger signal throughout the house.

The only solution I know of is to have the router located clear of thick walls. Also, try to position the antennas different ways.

I use a D-Link Xtreme N Wifi router which is pretty good at penetrating walls and other barriers in my house.

Mine has 3 antennas on it. And, I use D-Link adapters on my laptop and other computers to get maximum compatibility.
