There are two type of cartridges for cx 73 and 91 and now they introduced 91n and 73n. if your old color cartridges are 91 and now you inserted 91n black it wont be accept it. you have to change all the four cartridge same model.

SOURCE: Epson CX5400

Nothing wrong with the printer. The rubbish cartridge you bought and replace it with one that works. Approx 30% of most compatible/refilled cartridges DO NOT WORK.

Not only that but they WILL block your print head nozzles eventually. Ever wonder why Epson do NOT make any flushing cartridges but almost every compatible "maker" does??

99% sure the cart is at fault. return it to where you bought it and get a swap.

I have tried an ink cartridge that is not official Epson cartiridge - has worked fine for weeks now has decided that it has a error and it rejects this black cartridge. The other cartridges are Epson

Hi I had the same problem with a CX5400 printer scanner. My brother gave it to me because he'd put a compatible black cartridge in that was rejected. I tried compatible and genuine epson cartridges but no good. Still works as a scanner but wont print, not worth getting fixed.

PRINTING BLANK PAGE, BLACK INK CHANGED

It seems simple enough, but this is one of the most effective ways of fixing printer cartridge error. Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached.

To reattach the cartridge check the following steps :

turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head.

Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report.

Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.

Replaced the black ink cartridge but my cx5400 will not print

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

How do i install my new ink cartridges in my printer epsom

Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.
  1. Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX5400 is turned on and not printing. The LCD screen tells you which ink cartridge is low or empty.
  2. If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is low on ink, press the left Menu button until you see Change Cartridge, then press the Color Copy button.

If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is out of ink, press the Color Copy button.

The ink cartridges move to the replacement position.

  10. Unwrap the new ink cartridge and lower it into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place.
  11. Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge; you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

If you need to replace other ink cartridges, repeat steps 4 through 6 before continuing with step 7.
  12. Carefully lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus CX5400 begins charging the ink delivery system.
  13. The On light flashes and the EPSON Stylus CX5400 makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the On light stops flashing and stays on.
Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX5400 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus CX hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

Red error light stays on says needs black ink but i just put a new one in

the main issue here is that your printer don't recognize your new black cartridge.
try shutdown your printer and on it again or long press on your power button ..
and your also to open close your main door of your printer..
so that it will recognize the full black cartridge.
