SOURCE: I have a pant leg

Check on the top of the agitator for a cap to uncover a screw or bolt to remove the agitator, if not you may need to unsrew part of the top of the agitator.
Either way if you can remove what is attaching the agitator, pull it up and out, then the pants should come out.

SOURCE: drawstring tangled under agitator on an older GE washing machine.

You should be able to unscrew the top cap of the agitator ( may be left hand thread ) and lift off the agitator once the cap is off... They sometimes stick so you may have to muscle it to remove that cap..once lifted off..you should be able to untangle the string that is caught..

SOURCE: removing agitator

Sometimes small articles of clothing can manage to get between the inner spin basket and outer wash tub. This is NOT common, however. If this were the case the memory stick you mentioned, would end up lodged in the drain pump. There would be a noticeable noise from the impeller hitting it and it may cause the pump to fail, resulting in drainage problems. More than likely, its right where you suspect it is. To remove the agitator, do the following:

1. Remove the center cap or dispenser from the agitator.
2. Under the cap or dispenser is another plastic cap with a pull handle on it. Lift this cap out by pulling straight up, exposing the agitator mounting bolt.
3. Loosen the agitator bolt using a socket and ratchet. Once removed, grasp the entire agitator assembly by the bottom flanges and lift straight up. The entire agitator should come out.

NOTE: When reinstalling the agitator make sure you DO NOT overtighten the mounting bolt or it can cause damage to the agitator and restrict the movement. Good and "snug" is the rule of thumb.

Searspartsdirect.com has an excellent exploded view diagram of your agitator and components if you need a good reference. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Agitator, Basket and Tub Parts" heading.

I hope you find what you're looking for and hope this helps you in some way. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

SOURCE: Remove the agitator

The agitator is actually pressed on without mechanical fasteners . Grab the bottom of the agitator firmly on each side. Pull up with a quick, hard **** (careful not to hit your face). If this does not work, wrap a belt under the agitator. Grab the belt firmly and pull up with a quick, hard ****.

How do I remove the agitator? The drawstring, with a metal tip, on a warm up jacket is caught under the agitator. I am afraid to cut the drawstring and have the metal tip get lodged in the motor.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Then see the following illustrated description:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=136&osCsid=91e06a88de852a10cb5618dcc88ab7e6

Basically, you'll remove the fabric softener dispenser, remove the top agitator (be carefull of the agitator dogs), remove the 1/2" drive bolt and the lower agitator should pull off.

How do i remove the agitator to remove a tangled drawstring

Hi,
To remove the agitator you need to unscrew the cap on top of the agitator. With the cap off, pull straight up on the agitator; it should lift off. If it doesn't move, rap its side with a hammer. If it still won't lift off, drive wedges under the bottom rim of the agitator to dislodge it. Then set the new agitator if you want and replace the agitator cap.

Note: Damage to the snubbed, a pad like device sometimes located under the agitator cap, can cause the machine to vibrate excessively. Check to see if wet laundry is wadded around the bottom of the tub shaft, or under the basket or agitator assembly. Remove the basket or agitator in order to remove the laundry easily.
Let us know if you want any further clarification.

Laundry is trapped under the base of the agitator.

Im not very familiar with that type of top loadign washer,,, but on most agitators there is a bolt that runs down the center of the agitator, connecting it to the transmission/gearbox. Usually there is a cap, or softner dispenser that can be pulled off, revealing this bolt.

Sorry, I can't help you. This is the area for asking questions about computer monitors, not washing machines. You clicked the wrong link.
Look at the top of the page, click the Westinghouse link and then on washing machine. Enter your question there.
