Hello,
This happens when the printer is printing duplex job. i.e. trying to print the other side of the page.
However check the functionality of the printer by performing Paper path test.
This would help us to know whether the printer as a stand alone ... is fine or not.

From the control panel of the printer, scroll to Diagnostic > paper path test.
Select the following in sequence.
Source: All trays
Copies: 10
Duplex: ON
Print Test Page

Check if you get the same error.
If yes, upgrade teh firmware of the printer.

Let me know the end result. We still have more depending on the above test.

SOURCE: HP 8550 not printing

Disconnect your network cable and printer's hard drive and then power on. Its possible there is a stuck job somewhere.

If that doesn't work, believe or not it could be the fuser.

SOURCE: Printer stalls when sent a print job.

I'd suggest reinstalling the printer driver.

In Start - Printers and Faxes, find the printer and delete the icon. Power off the printer and disconnect the cable from the printer to the PC. Restart your workstation and log in. Reconnect your printer cable to the PC. The printer should be found. Install the driver and the printer should work. Good luck.

Error 49.38.07

Power off the printer for a minute. Power it on. Do you get the 49 error, does the printer READY? If it comes READY wait a few minutes. No 49 error? start printing, anything. 49 come back? clear the print queue after powering off the printer. Power back on. Do what you did above. No 49 error, it was probably a bad print job in the queue. If it comes back again, you will have to go to www.hp.com/support and answer the questions until you get to the FIRMWARE UPGRADE. Read it carefully and do it.
It's also possible there is a bad network, bad memory or bad formatter.

suggestion.
Disconnect the network cable or usb cable and try again. If the message does not come on, you have a bad job trying to print each time the printers signals the network it is ready. You need to delete the bad job. Sometimes you can keep the network cable disconnected until it comes to ready and then plug it in and keep hitting the cancel button in attempt to cancel the job, but most times you need to delete the job at the computer or server which is sending it.

Description 49 errors are generally communication errors or file related issues and can usually be resolved by following the steps below:
Action Turn the printer off, and then turn it on again.
If the 49 error returns turn the power off, unplug the power cable, disconnect all network cables, and remove the HP Jetdirect card (or any third-party devices), if installed.
Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging the printer back in directly to a wall outlet. Do not plug the printer into a power strip or a surge protector.
Turn the printer on. If the 49 error returns, turn the power off, and then unplug the printer. Remove the formatter board.
Check that the parallel I/O board is firmly installed on the formatter board.
Check for any non-HP memory DIMMs. If any extra memory is installed, remove it.

I have a error 49 when the machine comes up and blank screen with just the fan running ervery other boot up . i thinkit maybe the formater board

A 49 Error usually always points back to the formatter, however I would at least attempt a cold reset here are the directions:

1. Turn off the machine
2. Simultaneously press and hold the Cancel button and the right arrow button (> ), and then turn on
the machine.
3. Wait until the message Permanent storage init. appears, and then release the Cancel and right
arrow buttons.
Once the cold reset process has been completed, it will either show you a 49 error or ready.

If the cold reset does not fix the 49 error then yes I agree replace the formatter.

HP MFP 1522nf turns on and display error 49 turn off and on. The printer restarts and gives the same message again and again.

You need to be a little bit more specific nex time, the error 49 its normally related to an internal communication error between the DC Controller and the formatter board on the unit
Now we need to know if the problem appear when scanning, copying, printing, sending or receiving faxes
Heres some troubleshooting you can follow, its going to clear this error 49 most of the cases :
1. Turn off the product.
2. Press and hold both the down arrow button and the Cancel button, and then turn on the product.
3. Wait until the message Permanent storage init. appears, and then release the buttons.
4. When the printer comes back to ready, go to hp.com and download the latest firmware update for this 1522nf

Firmware Error 49 by Stephen (edited 3/20/07 12:29 PM) reply + / -
It could be a bad job.

First disconnect it from your network and any PC it might be attached to.

Power cycle it, then if it goes to ready status try the built in test pages, do they work?

If the printer will go to ready status and you have a parallel cable with the proper connector, then you can try upgrading the firmware from a PC, you can also try to upgrade the firmware over the network.

Cold Reset HP Laser Jet 4250n by Stephen (3/20/07 1:03 PM) reply + / -
Try a cold reset, it will reset the JetDirect settings, but it's the next step.

Cold Reset:

Power off printer, wait about 5 seconds, then power it on, when asterisks start appearing on the display press and hold the check mark until all 3 lights come on solid, then use arrow keys to find cold reset and push check mark to perform the reset.

Re: HP Laser Jet 4250n by Stephen (edited 3/20/07 2:27 PM) reply + / -
Then you probably need to replace the formatter.

Do you have another printer you can swap parts with?

There is a slim chance the memory DIMM is bad, you can try it with the DIMM removed, if there is more than one DIMM you can try installing just one and then the other.
-----------------------------

A 49 error indicates that the formatter could not understand or execute an instruction within a file or cannot interface with an accessory, DIMM, or EIO device. Troubleshooting 49 errors is done through process of elimination. First determine if the printer functions in a stand-alone mode then test communications to the printer.

These errors can be divided up into two categories; the associated troubleshooting depends on the circumstance the 49 errors are occurring.

A 49 error is always followed by Hexadecimal numbers, for instance, 49.00FF. The Hex code is a memory address. Most Hex codes are not documented.

Re: HP Laser Jet 4250n by dmzcompute (3/20/07 2:26 PM) reply + / -
I do not see anywhere where the printer has been disconected from everything. If you have not done so already disconnect every cable from the printer with the exception of the power cable and turn the printer back on and see if you get the error and if not report back here for further instructions.

You might also try disabling the embedded JetDirect.

To disable the embedded LAN port

Turn the printer power off.

Power on the printer and watch for the memory count to begin.

Hold down the SELECT (Checkmark) button, when you see the memory count begin.

Continue holding down the SELECT (Checkmark) button until all three printer control-panel lights flash once and then remain on. This might take up to 10 seconds.

After the message SELECT LANGUAGE appears on the display, press the UP ARROW button or the DOWN ARROW button until EMBEDDED LAN DISABLED appears on the display

Press the SELECT (Checkmark) button. The printer then continues its power-on sequence with the embedded LAN disabled.

If this works the JetDirect built into the formatter is bad, you can either replace the formatter, or buy an JetDirect to install in an EIO slot.

Re: HP Laser Jet 4250n by Trev Pearson (3/20/07 10:08 PM) reply + / -
The only other thing to try, before spending money, is to get the network administrator to clear the print queue for that particular printer and then turn it on.

The theory being that a 'corrupt' print job is still in the system and as soon as the printer is turned on, that 'corruption' floods the network card with garbage which promptly goes 49.

If the printer comes 'ready', great. Then do a firmware upgrade. If not, then you will have to spend money on a new formatter.

Trev
