When you turn the tv on it starts scanning thru all the channels

in set up mode it does that , as it thinks you have just started it up for first time(it don't know any better) and its looking for what channels it can receive (and store in memory) it might take some twenty minutes or more to complete this function , if you use remote and interrupt it to watch something , it wont ever complete this needed function so it does it again next time you turn on

Why does my wharfedale digital tv keep sayind no infomation available on tv stations when i have not long tuned it in

You need to do a Full Factory Reset tuning rather than just a rescan.

Rescan simply looks at the place holders where the old channels were stored and refreshes them. A Factory Reset (A.K.A. Shipping Condition) wipes the channel memories and starts again fresh

Wharfedale Digital TV will not store channels.

Main system control memory IC fault. This is a very small IC; have 8 solder terminals, and can be located very near to the main system control-chroma IC. Check and replace it. Be sure to replace it with the same number printed on it; in all respect. Otherwise, it won't go. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Before replacing it, try a reset to this set, and then check.
There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. If you want to make it a system reset [Factory Reset]; you have to enter its service mode option, and select the factory reset option. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here.

I have a Wharfedale WH170 car stereo. I have programmed the radio channels, but whenever I turn off the ignition, the programmes are lost and I have to retune and store the channels again. Is there...

This is usually caused by having the memory and power connections swapped (one stays on all the time, to store stations etc, and the other turns on with the ignition to provide the main power)

Try swapping the two power wires over - they're usally thick yellow and red wires IIRC, and almost all modern stereos have in-line 'bullet' connectors to let you swap them over easily (because not all car manufacturers have them the same way around!).
