How to replace right front strut assy

Hey John, You will need to get a strut spring compressor. -- use the "loaner tool" program from O'Reilly's or Autozone.. - Jack up the vehicle, place JACK STANDS under the frame..leave the suspension "hanging" with the tire off the ground,, get the spring compressor and start compressing the strut spring...once you have the spring compressed about 1 inch.. its time to loosen the mounting bolts/nuts for the top and bottom shock mounts...make sure you have the spring compressing under control... now remove the nuts and bolts from the strut mounts...now finish compressing the spring..and then remove the strut.... NOW - REVERSE the procedure for installation.

I need to change top strut mount on my ford mondeo .just need to know if i need spring compressers before i start

Yes you will need a spring compresser but for V6 motors the springs are much stiffer.
What i do is remove struts and have the springs compressed and strut changed over at a workshop.Costs less and saves time and energy. For 4 cylinder cars the springs are softer and can be done at home.

hope this helps..

Replacing the shocks & struts

If your not very mechanically inclined , Its best & safe for you & others not to try to change out struts. But if you are inclined, then this is what you need to do the job. Struts are shock absorbers that are inside of a highly compressed spring. You will need spring compressors that you can buy or rent at your local auto parts stores. You need to compress the spring before removing the center shock. If you do not compress the spring sufficiently the shock can come out at a high rate of speed causing injury to you & others. You will need to compress the spring from both sides, ( opposite from each other ) if you install a spring compressor on one side just put the other tool right across from it on the same spring. compressing the spring evenly on both sides. Not all at one time just on one side of the spring. After doing so remove the top & bottom nuts of the shock. Your rented or bought spring compressor should come with directions & illastrations to better assist you with the job. Good Luck.

HOW DO THE SPRING ATTACHED TO THE SAFETY BAR BACK IN SLOT; IT APPEARS TO BE TO STIFF TO COMPRESS BY HAND

Try compressing the spring with a Channel-lock type of pliers, hold it over the slot and use a small hammer to tap the spring into the slot while keeping the spring compressed. Good luck!

How do you compress a shock absorber spring

You need a special tool to compress the spring and these are available from the auto shop. Make sure you get a good quality one and be very careful it doesn't slip because there is a lot of stored energy when the spring is compressed.

How do you compress the spring that holds apart the spin brake on the drum of a whirlpool washer?

got a spring compressing tool that kinda looks like a channel with a hinge at one end and a bolt halfway down that you loosen to open up the "mouth," stick in the spring, then screw down the bolt, compressing the spring. Once the spring is in place, you loosen the bolt and it releases it onto the brake calipers and voila! The spring is in place.

My 93 gmc vandura smokes from exaust when engine starts

You're burning oil, I've got the same problem with mine. It's not that big of a problem, just change the oil on time, mine has been doing it for years and there has never been a problem as a result.
