Uninstall the installed driver, download the sound driver from the laptop manufacturer (the exact driver for your laptop model) and install it.

No sound and neither disc drawers work.

Hook up just one of the dvd drives and see if the BIOS detects it. Press F2 to go into the BIOS when you first turn on your computer. Setup the defaults in the BIOS. If it detects the one drive, then let it boot up into windows to see if you can get the drive to work. If you can or can't then try the other drive and see if you can get that one to work. This way your trying both at different times to see if you can get either or both to work.

Make sure the jumpers on the back of them are set to master as your trying both of them one at a time. If you can get both of them to work seperately, then the next step is to try both of them together buy setting the top drive as the master and the bottom one as the slave.

If you can get both of them to work then that means the drive is good, if one or both doesn't work then you know one or both drives are bad.

As far as the sound goes, make sure its enabled in the BIOS and then go back into windows, If you don't see the speaker in the bottom right hand corner and still no sound, then go ahead and download the latest driver for your sound located here:

Under the audio option, download and install the Sigmatel driver. If after you download and install that driver the sound still doesn't work, then the sound chipset on the motheboard is bad and in that case you'll have to buy a new sound card.

Can't read cd's or dvd's and no sound

The best thing you can do is back up all your important data to an external USB drive and reinstall Windows (I assume you're not running Linux). There may be a recovery program and partition included with the PC if it is relatively new, and that will make the process much easier. That should fix the problem.

Sound will not come one

Hi there;
You recently replaced your hard drive and now your sound does not work?
If you computer boots I would guess your hard drive is connected correctly.
I would check your sound component connections.
Could be inside the case at the sound card or as simple as you unplugged the transformer to the speakers. Also check your sound software to make sure it's not muted.
Hope this helps

Floppy drive problem

what may be happening is that the system is looking for a floppy drive as well as other possible places when you save your work. The last time you saved a document you must have used your floppy drive and it's looking there by default, i wouldnt worry too much, to confirm this you can put a floppy in the drive and the noise will go away because there is a floppy in the drive.
