My older whirlpool washing machine stopped spinning?

No spin, try these:

Using a multi meter check for continuity the door switch, which when bad may not allow agitation or spin. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically.

Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand.

Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either)

Next check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven.

On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly.
The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet.

It spins during rinse cycle but the clothes don't spin dry. Still very wet, even after a second spin without any more water being added.

It may not be spinning fast enough. Is the agitator operating at normal speed?

Possible causes for slow spin are overloaded washer, slipping belt, bad bearings in the motor or clutch, or slipping clutch.

Another possibility is a problem with the pump, but I suppose you would also see some water left in the bottom of the machine in that case.

Whirl pool washing machine doesnt spin dry

If it wont spin at all, check the lid switch. If it will spin but not fast enough to spin the water out of the clothes, it sounds like the clutch could be slipping.

Some times the washer machine will spin and then

sounds like your clutch is slipping,,,,you can put a #10 washer in one of the clutch spring caps and that stops the slipping! thats a low on cash fix or just replace the clutch ,cost about 40 bucks!

I get a loud squealing noise whem my machine goes into spin cycle...model# 110.28722700

what i found out on my machine was that the thrust washer had ground off the bottom of my basket drive tube , all that screeching we heard during the spin cycle was the bottom of the tube being ground off. i had to get another used drive tube installed a new clutch and now works fine, also your clutch could be slipping, i heard that you can put a #10 washer into 1 of the caps of your clutch spring and that would work.

80 series kenmore washing machine not spinning in spin cycle

You may either have a broken motor coupler (connects the motor to the transmission) or the clutch/brake assembly is slipping. To test the motor coupler start a cycle, if it fills and agitates, the coupler is ok.
You can check the clutch/brake by selecting the spin cycle, open the lid and press the lid switch down using a pen. When the motor starts check for either a very slow spin or give it a boost by pushing the inner drum clockwise and see if it picks up any speed. If it spins just a little, the clutch/ brake assembly is slipping and will need to be replaced.
