Hi, we have a problem with our Weatherking heating unit/ air conditioner. We had it installed 07/20/06. It really never has worked properly. For the last 2 summers in run's constantly. Which of course makes our electric bills outragous. Our house is around about 2200 square feet. This unit is a 4 ton unit. What could be the problem. Please help. Thank you. The model # is 13AJA48A01

- Solution#1. Thank you for you'r response. Had 2 company's come out. #1 company was here to check refrigerant. It was cooler in the house before they started then after. One problem. some kinda blocked tube [in copper tubing]. it wouldn't allow freion to form into gas, so it of course freeze up. #2, problem, poor air return in attic. Called company who installed the unit [under warrenty-unit]. alott of money later, still have to get someone who can help us get more ais in-take to the attic, as recomended by the installers. What to do, now?Clarification Request

You need to verify the refrigerant pressure at the outside unit.(approx. 68 psi and 225 psi.for R-22) Inspect the inside coil, is it dirty? Is the indoor fan running OK? Is the low pressure refrigerant line insulated? Is the return air flowing OK?Is there frost/ice on the indoor coils or refrigerant line?

Lets look at the whole problem. Did you have a new unit inside. Is the charge correct for unit. 1 lb of refrigerant makes difference. Four tons should be big enough if you have proper insulation. I have three tons in a 2100 square foot house. Its plenty big enough. You may have to small a return air. To small a return can cut a four ton unit to 2.5 ton unit very easily. 1.5 square foot pf free grille area per ton. Rusty

- Sometimes the feeder tubes inside the air handler do get stopped up. Very rare! Do this. Take temp reading at the return and a temp reading at you closest vent and subtract the two. It should be between 19 to 23 degrees. If you have electric heat a sequencer could be stuck allowing a heat strip to remain in. You will see this in temp difference in you measurement. If the temp you measure across the unit is low 12 to 16. Some problems are incorrect charge heat strip stuck. I do a lot cool surveys on customers units. I have 45 years in AC(Engineering for GE,instructor in tech school and I own a Carrier dealership,Air Balancing and cool survey cerified by National Comfort Institute. Ask the service tech what the splitis on the unit and watch and you take the reading with them. Not everyone out there is a service tech OK. They know basics and really dont know superheat from entropy. Keep in touch we will solve this problem Promise. RusJul 04, 2009

What part of the country are you in?If you are in the south unit to small. 400sq ft to 12,000 btu's = one ton capacity. What is the supply air temp and the return? should be 20f-18f ya really need a qualified service co to look @ this. Tom
