SOURCE: The scanner is fine and
This is a registry error as thr RPC (Remote Call Procedure) cannot be started.
Microsoft KnowledgeBase article that mentions a Registry key called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Rpc, but that key may fine on the your machine if you examined it with REGEDIT.
It is more likely the missing reg key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\RpcSs
Messing about with the registry is not recommended if you are unsure ofr what to do as you can cause more problems, so I would not do that.
Unfortunately you do not say which OS you are using so I will guide you through XP and there will be similarties in Vista and win7
Quickest attempt. Uninstall printer and reinstall. If XP(or any) disconnect printer before reinstalling.
If that fails then I suggest running a CHKDSK from command prompt .
Easy in XP click start/run and type cmd in the box that comes up.
For Vista and 7 you need to do this
Click the ORB and go to the run box and type in cmd. Now instead of hitting the Enter key, use Ctrl+Shift + Enter. You will be prompted with the obnoxious User Account Control dialog… but it will then open up a command prompt in Administrator mode. Then type in CHKDSK /r note there is a space between the K and the /.
It will tell you the disc is locked and would you like to run CHKDSK on reboot, enter y for yes, enter then type exit.
Reboot PC, this could now take some time as your HDD will be checked and repaired if a problem is found.
Please note there is no guarantee that this will solve the problem but it should.
Let me know how you get on.
