I have a Bernina Patchwork 140. How do I change the needle to stop in the down position? The sewing manual is no help.

As far as I know, the Patchwork 140 doesn't have a needle stop up/down button. You'll need to use the hand wheel to bring the needle up or down, as needed. The Bernina machines that have a needle stop up/down button have this button below the LCD screen. (On those machines, it's usually the left-most button below the LCD.) I suspect the index giving a page number for the Needle Stop Up/Down button is a artifact of using the same index for multiple machines.

The manual for the Patchwork 140 is available at Manuals Lib here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1002243/Bernina-Activa-131.html . The Bernina 135 has the needle stop up/down button. See https://www.bernina.com/en-US/Support-US/Machines/BERNINA-activa/BERNINA-activa-135 . The manual for this model is https://www.bernina.com/getdoc/90f75840-2b12-4f46-88f2-76f09e35d8d4/030529-52-04_0303_a135-a145_EN .

I hope this helps.

Janome 6600. Needle came loose &fell down into the bobbin area. Needle did not break off. I took off the plate and manually tried to move a new needle and shaft up/down. needle is hitting something

If you did not get the old needle out, it may be blocking something. That old needle must be removed before you attempt to any further sewing. Try removing the bobbin case from the machine and looking in there to see if you can locate and remove the old needle. Sometimes, I've had to turn the machine sideways or upside down and shake it to dislodge the needle.

============

Open the bobbin area and hand rotate the handwheel while watching the needle action. If it is hitting, you should see it. If that is the case, the machine may be out of time and need service.

What is smart pedal foot control for Bernina? I have a Patchwork Edition 140 and needle stop down should be controlled by pedal according to shop. I don't understand.

The foot control you are talking about will activate the needle down function on your machine. You need to press down on your heel on the foot control. This was the precursor to the automatic needle up/down option that is found on newer sewing machines that will automatically stop with the needle in the down position.

What is wrong when the needle will not go up and down?

there is a disengage for when you need to spool a bobbin, it keeps the needle from going up & down, check to see if this is the problem.

Why does the needle always stop down in the fabric?

I just took a look at your user's manual (I recommend you go to the Singer site and download it--it's free), and on page 20, it says that the top button of the set of three buttons above the needle shaft is the needle up/down button. If you press it when the machine is NOT sewing, it will reset it to stopping with the needle UP instead of DOWN. In other words, it resets the needle's default position, but you must do that when it isn't sewing anything.

Bernina 180 needle bar won't move up and down

This could be the needle bar clutch. Turn off machine. Unplug machine. Remove needle. Turn hand wheel in normal rotation 1/4 turn. Gently move needle bar up and down by hand you should feel a click and the needle bar will not move up and down easily now. Restart machine and test. If it works all is good. This is a result of the machine requiring professional attention. If you use basting stitches it will likely unclutch again.

My needle hit one of the pins holding the fabric together. Usually it snaps the needle in half and I just replace it. This time, it jammed down inside the bobbin housing and I couldn't lift the needle up...

Remove the faceplate, bobbin and case. See if you can see the bottom part of the needle. Use a flashlight to look down in the bobbin area. Put a magnet on a pair of long tweezers to magnify it. You can then gently move the tweezers around to grab hold of the broken needle.

The needle keeps breaking and the thread wont stay threaded. the needle is not going straight up and down but it goes down and gets stuck almost

usually a 3-5 inch thread tail is helpful to keep the thread from coming out of the needle & pull the thread(top & bottom) behind the needle
flat side of needle goes to the back of machine
some needles & thread are not compatable----try this

Cut 6-8 inch piece of thread of the spool you are going to use for your project
Take the needle you are going to use for the project
& insert the thread thru the eye of the needle
& lift one end of the thread to a 45 degree angle
& if the needle is the right size for the thread it will slide down the thread
But if the needle hangs on the thread you need one size larger needle for the thread

on some machines the presser foot can't do a zig zag stitch

Screen says that needle is in down position but it isn't. I have repeated pressed the raise needle button and the machine lowers and then raises the needle but the error message doesn't go awya.

Look for an optical sensor that the needle mechanism blocks when down. It's a small plastic rectangular package with a slot through the middle that the needle blocks with a vane of some kind. This slot can pick up lint and dust which makes the machine think that the needle is down. Clean the slot with a vacuum and a fine needle. Hope this helps.

Pfaff grand quilter 18.8 with Q-Bot, and having problems with the stitch regulator. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?

the up and down buttons are not working properly. When pressing the needle down button, the needle does go down and then comes right back up. pressing the needle up button makes the needle shoot up and down 2 times very fast. HELP
