Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

2 Answers

Hi everyone.  Need some help with this one as I am stumped.  HP Tech Support is a JOKE.

Here is what I have.  Turn on the power and the system POSTs fine. After the POST screen, it goes to a blank screen and you see the cursor in the upper left corner blinking.

Here is what I have done:

Changed Boot order
Reseated Hard Drive & CD Rom
Replaced, Reseated, and swapped Memory
Reset to default CMOS
Tried with Battery out.
Tried with less memory

Any help please.

I have attempted to run without the hard drive as well.  Still no luch.  Just goes to the same blanks screen after post.

That did not work.  I can get in the BIOS fine and play there.  I can not boot from CD or HD.  How would I flash the BIOS?

Still having the same issue and don't feel that CMOS flash would work as the CMOS seems to be fine

I am assuming that you can see the HDD, CD, etc. in the BIOS.
If you can, then you may have issues in a few places.  The most common would be the master boot record, however, you should be receiving an OS not present error, or similar.  I would put my money on a IDE controller problem, or as eagle338 mentioned, RAM.  There isn't much else that it could be.  Do you get any activity on the drives at all during boot?  Try without the CD drive attached, and if you have a USB device that you can boot from, unplug everything and try that.  The USB device will rule out the IDE controller if the machine still doesn't boot.

Oh my...This is really strange..anyways this might happen sometimes if the edges of your memory chips are oxidized..Try this..Plug em' out take and eraser(yes and eraser) and rub the ends of your memory chips and then put it back..Let me know if it worked so that we can proceed further..
Also if you have a bootable CD put it into your drive and try booting from it if it doesn't boot then its probably a problem with the bios and i will help you flash it..
Good luck!

You can try what pattersj78 has suggested if you wanna check if its the problem with the IDE controller...IF its not the problem with that then i bet it is problem with the BIOS...and you will have to flash it..Its a problem with the I/O unit and do no not forget that BIOS=Basic Input Output System...

My hp compaq la2306x monitor has smoke coming from the back when i connect to the works well. what is the problem?

Switch it off as soon as possible and don't use it till you found what is smoking. Unless someone was blowing smoke as a joke, smouldering something inside won't take long till it burns or makes a shortage, what in turn can blow the power supply.

Toshiba Plasma TV HP 42 Inch pop no picture

Most common issue is power supply board fails--Plasma sets do not sell single parts--only a complete board---may need a tech or shop to look and determine what is wrong.

I can suggest things but need to know your skill levels--this is not for everyone....

HP dv6000. Will not turn on. Clicks on for two or so seconds and turns off

Remove the battery and the power plug, now replug in the power plug alone and attempt to boot. If the laptop starts then the issue is the battery. If not the laptop has failed and you'll need to contact HP for service or a local service tech if it's outside of warranty. -Ravi Shanghavi, Ottawa

I would need some more explanation on this kind of issue.

It seems u have performed most of the steps to isolate the cause of the issue.

are you getting BIOS ???

if not...I guess there has to be something with the motherbaord.. then u need to check the follwoing recall program from HP. if ur laptop is in that then u can get the discount in repair otherwise u need to really concern the local tech to replace the MB.

Please check with it.. also can u please provide the product code of ur noetbookso tht i can search the MB..

HP a1600n desktop will turn on but will not boot. Does not run thru BIOS, keys/mouse check. HDD spins up, CDROM goes thru check then just sits. Monitor doesn't kick in because doesn't get to video check....

you need to open up the case, and remove the CMOS battery ( a silver wafer-style battery about the size of a quarter) and leave it out for about 10 minutes. put the battery back in and close the case back up and DONT mess with ANYTHING ELSE. if the computer STILL wont boot, then your motherboard is bad, and will need to be replaced through the manufacturer of your PC.

Cartridge Error

I hate to be blunt, but buy another printer other than HP. I have the same model and HP tech support could not help me. Even after tech support replaced the printer and the power supply, the problem persisted. My story is very long and may seem complicated to the average user. I am an expert in the computer field.
