i think you are on the right track. the gas company will verify the pressure going to unit but it sounds like the gas control valve on your heater may need to be adjusted. for that you will need a licensed gas fitter. call your local pool company or the company who installed the heater. directions on how to adjust the valve will be found in your owners manual

Normally soot is from a range that hasn't been converted for the gas type, like natural or propane. It may be set up for natural when you're on propane or visa versa. Has this range ever worked properly without sooting?

Hi there my home is about 3 years old. i have noteced black dust on the doors window frames basically everywhere. i don't know why.

Does this unit have an blower? If so there is no filter and this can happen.
Direct vent means no open flame in the house but you might still have a combustion problem. Open the front cover and check for black soot. Also check outside at the flue for soot. If so then you need to get this thing checked. Also make sure the little door for the pilot is closed. May have a improper install here if only 3-years.

Our Rinnai gasheater is in 'n working condition but since we used it the white walls and ceilings are covered with black marks - I am worried that it could be dangerous - any advice?

Unfortunately, you failed to mention the Model Number and whether its a flue-less or Vented unit. In either case, the black streaks you see on the walls and ceilings is soot. If it's a flue-less unit, this is an indication that the unit has not received routine maintenance on a regular basis. The sooting is caused by a dirty or clogged burner or low gas pressure.

Also, burning scented candles and operating the heater at the same time, will cause soot. Not from the heater, but from the candles. All candles soot, but scented candles soot more than others. Combine them with the warm moist heat and they will soot 50 times worse. If this is the case, it's the candles sooting, not the heater. Stop burning the candles while the heater is in operation.

Is the soot dangerous? Yes, to the point that you are breathing it in, when it;s floating in the air. The sooting didn't occur over night, it has been doing it for sometime. You finally realized it, when you saw the black streaks. Stop using the heater until it is professionally serviced by and authorized Rinnai Service Technician and the walls and ceiling are cleaned.

You can either remove the soot yourself or have it professionally done. Then, you should prime paint the walls and ceiling with a sealer like Kilz, before repainting. All curtains or draperies should be washed or dry cleaned. All furniture and carpeting should be vacuumed thoroughly.

I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Is it allright to burn part deisel with kerosine in a Toyo laser ignited heating stove?

Only if you want to stink up the house (more than just what the kerosene does) and don't mind dealing with a little soot on the walls and ceiling.

I wouldn't. But the choice is yours to make.

hope this helped you in some way. Please let me know. Thanks.

Kerosene heater smoking

Hi, I would say that you have a build up of soot. Kerosene and propane heaters are notorious for this, you wouldn't think so but it happens a lot.Carbon up and soot. You will have to open it up, the combustion chamber and give it a good cleaning. I would wear a dust mask as soot as i am sure you know, will get on and in everything. Please let me know how it goes and if this solves the problem.
Good Luck,

HOW DO YOU BY PASS THE FLAMABLE VAPOR VALVE ON A HOT WATER HEATER

You buy a new water heater AND have a QUALIFIED person from your gas supply company or a qualified plumber install it.

You bypass that valve and you're just asking to blow up yourself, your family, and possibly any nearby neighbors. They'll be picking up pieces of your house a quarter mile away.

As the other posters said, too, any means of bypassing this valve is in violation of all kinds of local, state, and federal laws, voids your warranty, and will definitely be found by the fire marshal when they try to determine what caused your house to suddenly explode, thereby ruining your chances at getting a settlement from your insurance company. They may even classify it as arson. All points considered, and no offense intended, it would be downright stupid given the safety implications.

Go to YouTube and search "propane explosion" or "natural gas explosion".
