Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a kenmore refrigerator with freezer on bottom--model # 59675502400-- replaced thermostat and now freezer is getting cold but top refrigerator is still warm-- the frig started to make a noise last Saturday and then stooped working and both freezer and top refrigerator was warm. Fans are running in freezer as well as in back near compressor. The thermostat replacement helped get freezer going and compressor running now but refrigerator top is still warm? Frustrated!

I went ahead and signed up for Sears' service warranty since I knew I had to get someone to come out.  IT costs $200/yr.  They say it covers everything, but when the technician came out, he told me that it just covers $500 per visit.  He said that a new motherboard and the labor alone was going to make it $498.  Anyway,   he had ordered a new motherboard. Apparently the motherboard wasn't working.  It is located in the back bottom left side of the refrigerator behind the panel.  There is a compartment on the lefthand side that slides out and houses the motherboard.  He put that in and also had to fix the fan that is in the back of the freezer.  That fan is the one that sends cool air up to the refrigerator part. When I had looked at the fan before the repair man came, it was not moving at all.  So at least take a look at the fan in the freezer.  Just take out the freezer drawers, and the fan is located in the top center of the freezer behind the compartment cover.  Maybe that's the problem with your refrigerator, the fan.  Hope that's all it is. Good luck!

if the evaporator is clogged with ice, then you have a defrost problem.
check the defrost heater and the bi-metal .

to answer your question what controls the fan then it is the module that controls the fan.

you said you have diagnostic to test the damper then there should be a procedure also to test the evaporator fan motor.

why don't you try it..

the refrigerator simply by transferring the cold air from freezer via circulation fan the temp controls tells the fan to circulate cold air until the thermostat is satisfied I would check to see if the fan is blowing on most models I have seen its located in the left rear wall closest to the freezer above the top shelf

Yes, and if you turn the thermostat colder and the thermostat is in good condition it will. You model was made with a mechanical thermostat with Freon filled probe. You may need to close the cold air flow to bottom during extreme cold days and redirect the thermostat probe closer to the freezer opening but it should work. My refrigerator worked fine in ten inches of snow last year and temps in the teens. Thanks, Sea Breeze.

How to checkeverything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Inmost newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicksand everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replacethe timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn thetimer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

It sounds like the fan is not circulating the air from the freezer to the fridge. Since it's new then you should contact the store where you purchased it for exchange or repair immediately.
