That is a 44 error code. It means that the LVDS cable is not being detected. Make sure that you got it connected securely and that it didn't get torn. I hope this helps.

WD-60738 mitusbishi tv comes on for a few seconds and shuts off and a red light stays on

This problem is most likely caused by the lamp needing to be replaced. The original lamp for these televisions are designed to last approximately 6000 viewing hours. When they start to reach the end of their life cycle, they will usually begin to dim, and some so bad it begins to look like a bad standard definition channel as opposed to an HD broadcast. The manual suggests you replace the lamp, and in the interim it says to max out the contrast and brightness, among other things. Still, the red indicator on the front of the set means you need to change your lamp.
NOTE: I caution you to use the recommended, original replacement lamp. There are many cheaper substitutes, and as the old saying goes "you get what you pay for", in this particular instance, it is very true. You will either experience poor picture quality, or it will be a very short lifespan/life cycle of your lamp before needing to be replaced yet again.
