Question about Cambridge Audio 640C

1 Answer

Radomly clips or skips

My 640C randomly clips or skips.  Not quite a skip and dosn't happen in the same place twice.  Happens on new CD's.  Ran Lense Cleaner disc and still happens.

I have the same problem, my player is only 6 months old. Sometimes it can get through 2 or 3 discs and refuse to read the next one, but as you say, no predictability to it. Guess it needs to go back to the manufacturer? This is already my 2nd one (first had the top line of its LCD screen missing).

1 year old machine; can go dozens of discs with no problem, then clips 'n' skips. Hitting the back button takes you to the start of the track, and the problem is not duplicated. Completely random. Last time it happened was April, happened today (July). When I replace it, it won't be with a Cambridge Audio product as a result - some of us can't afford the luxury of paying for shoddy components.

it may not be the problem but check the earthing strip or put a new earth wire from the engine block to the shell or negative on the battery and see if this stops it, can happen if the earth is damaged or not connecting properly, as parts not getting the correct voltage.

Kenwood portable cd player dpc-741 skips.

Hello

The skipping happens because the lens is weak,to solve this problem open the cd player so you can see the lens.Clean the lens with cotton wool dabbed in a little methylated spirit(wipe carefully). This should stop the skipping.

If the skipping continues then the lens is too weak to play CD's so it is best that you change the lens of your CD player.

I had this problem and solved it in minutes by downloading and installing a neat little freeware program called TouchFreeze. Google it and give it a try. --Erik E./Brooklyn

Skipping yamaha 765

I have a very similar type unit, a Nakamichi CDC-3 that had the same problem. I found this link....

http://repairfaq.ece.drexel.edu/REPAIR/F_cdfaq6.html#CDFAQ_001

I spent about two hours fixing mine. The sled mechanism was binding somehow, causing random skipping. The first 10 minutes was getting it apart and figuring what was wrong, the remainder was spent getting all those tiny parts back in the proper place.

Look up the exact symptom before going at it (probably long skips). Set aside a long slow lazy day with nothing to do. DO NOT drink too much coffee, you will be handling tiny parts that go in tedious locations, so you don't need caffeine jitters adding to your misery. Take your time and be careful. It's well worth it. Mine plays like a new one.
