It would help if you mentioned the OS version. Blue screen/memory dump is usually some driver or hardware error. First, make sure you run windows update to get windows up to date. Second, get all the driver updates from the hp/compaq site. Third, run the system file checker. You will need the Windows CD unless your system has a recovery partition. To run thew system file checker:
Start>Run>type in sfc /scannow <enter>

Note the space between the sfc and the forward slash. Also, note the two n's in scannow.

Have you tried "Delete" to enter the "Bios Settings"? If not this must be the shortcut for your laptop, since most compaqs' Bios settings are accessed with "del" key. Actually for Hp compaq laptops, F1, F2, F10 and Delete keys are the shortcuts. (varies with series/models).
If this doesn't help, try Fn+F1, Fn+F2, Fn+F10 etc..
