Question about Fuji FinePix E550 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Screen works in playback mode but turns off in camera mode as if batteries are going dead.

Camera turns on and works fine in playback mode. But as soon as you press the shutter button, the power goes off leaving a blank screen. We went to the beach last fall -- could it be sand? However, the camera worked fine until just a few months ago. Wanted to open it up to see if I could see any sand, but don't have a screwdriver small enough to do the job. Any suggestions?? Need to get it fixed quick with the holidays coming up!

I have a FujiA345 and have the same problem. Wonder if this problem will be solved by reinstalling the the camera software.

The same thing happens to mine. I can do playback mode, but when I turn it on and take a picute it shows it on the screen for a short moment and then shuts off. If I go to playback to see if it took it did not. I have tried changing the batteries serveral times but no difference. It doesn't show a low battery symbol in the corner either. What could be wrong.

    The same problem.

I've just experienced the same problem. I thought it was probably because my rechargeable batteries had run low (although it's never behaved in this way before) so I tried it with some new non-rechargable batteries. But the problem persisted. However, I've just tried it again with fresh rechargable batteries and it appears to be working again. Strange!

For some reason, Fuji does not emphasize that if your batteries get low, this is what happens. You just need recharged batteries or new batteries. Be careful with rechargables--before recharging them when this happens, you first have to drain them using the discharge mode of your camera. Then they will take a complete charge. (Good for some 300 charges or so, I believe.) But if you don't discharge them first, they will take less and less of a charge, and last shorter and shorter. If you use regular batteries, they might not last for 50 pics before running out of juice.

One last comment: Fuji states that you should try to clean the metal connectors to the battery posts. (They don't say how, but likely some abrasive like non-soapy steel wool would do the trick.)

Canon 60D playback images turning up black

Did you switch to Tv (shutter mode) and took pictures for several seconds? like in the dark? Because saving the picture can take as long as the shutter time was.
Before panic. (Actually you never should panic) check your camera in automatic mode. And make sure you did not select any power save action, that puts your display on dark while shooting.
But always be sure your battery is charged and check its capacity. In the menu yo can check under the wrench symbol, when you select Battery info. Page 268 of the manual.
Working with a bad battery can damage the camera in the end.

When I click the button to take a picture the screen goes blank and doesn't come back on. Power light is still on.

Your shutter is stuck open. Remove the lens. Set to fireworks mode. May need to be in a dark room. When you press the shutter button tap the camera with an object that won't damage it. I used a rubber coated knife handle. Pull the battery and repeat. Tapping all around the camera. Hopefully it will break free. Then do some continuous shooting to loosen it up.

Camera goes to sleep too quickly...is there a way to adjust?

To save battery power, the camera automatically goes into sleep mode and the monitor turns off if there is no operation after 3 minutes when the camera is turned on (when the lens cover is open and the monitor is on). No picture is taken even if the shutter button is fully pressed in this mode. Operate the zoom button or other buttons to restore the camera from sleep mode before taking a picture. If the camera is left on for 15 minutes, it automatically turns off (the lens cover closes and the monitor turns off). Press POWER to turn the camera on.

Screen black in all lighting. Icons and menu show and can view photos already on card, but screen black in all modes. Can take picture, but it is also black. Lens cover is open. Nikon Coolpix 4600. Thanks...

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected

No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:

• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image
mode setting.

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):
