Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
This is a known problem by sony. There are a couple of things that you can try. The main issue is there is a problem with the laser. You may be able to run Sony PS1 discs or Music CD's but DVD's are normally what quit working first. If you are inclined to open the system and it is out of warrenty you can do so. BE VERY CAREFUL There is a ribon cable that goes to the power button. Also there is most likely a LOT of dust in the system. You need to go to your local Drug Store and get some 99% rubbing Alcohal and Q-Tips. There are then 4 screws on the top of the DVD rom drive You take these off and clean the lens of the drive. If this does not work, then you laser is bad. You can attempt to adjust it with the little white wheel, but this is not always successful.
Hope this helps
